I like Equilibrium, but that's my choice. A better director wouldn't have made the dramatic scenes so heavy-handed. If it were a wide release like it probably deserved and not so criminally under distributed, I probably would have watched this movie, thought it was pretty good, and forgot about it a year later. I think the movie sometimes gets unfair extra credit because it was so overlooked at the time.

My pick is strange because I actually absolutely love this movie (a top 10 or 15 for sure), but I find Fight Club to be extremely overrated. It's just that I don't see how everyone else can love it as much as I do, but I'm glad that they do.

I just don't see it as one of the best movies ever made, though I have my own personal taste with it which I very much enjoy.

I'll probably have a better answer later (with a movie that I don't really like), but that's what came into my head first.

1.Lost in Translation-maybe Im much smarter than I was in High School, but I found it insanely boring
2.Clerks II- horrible acting and not the least bit funny
3.Curious Case of Benjamin Button-Forrest Gump with NO soul

Dark Knight was good, but I still thought it was a bit overrated, I had to pee really badly halfway through the movie, so maybe I was just anxious for it to finish, but I thought the ending was pretty lame and rushed. Will have to give it another viewing soon.

Casablanca

This movie is said to be one of the top 5 movies of all time. I've tried to watch it and like it a number of time but just can't get into it. It's a bit disjointed and the story is blah. I love Humphrey Bogart but this is by far the worst movie i've seen him in terms of my enjoyment of it.

I just don't understand all the praise for it.

People will disagree but i think Donnie Darko is / has become overrated. Sure it's clever and different but people talk like it's the greatest film ever made which it clearly isn't.

Another movie that i like but was definetley overated was 300. I own this on dvd myself but basically it's a bunch of muscle bound guys walking around in their underpants for an hour and a half with some special effects thrown in.

Titanic aka the highest grossing film of all time has to be up there. Sure it was an ok story about a tragic event but the highest grossing film of all time, you got to be kidding me!?

I just have no desire to see it at all. I wouldn't get past the opening credits of any of them I just know that for a fact. I mean don't get me wrong I've never seen the movies, but I know the basic premise, the characters, the plot etc. It's been spoofed and talked about so much over the years it's impossible to be completely ignorant to what star wars is....it just does nothing for me.

Agreed on 300. Lol at the "revolutionary" cinemotography style. Aka slowing down stuff whole a dude is walking around at normal speed. This has been used in film for quite a while. I liked the comic book feel lack of color to the video, and it was a good film. But. it was definitely not as good as people made it out to be.

I came into this thread wanting to be the first to post "300". I couldn't stand that movie. It was a blind buy and it was the movie that killed blind buys for me. Now, I don't purchase without a prior viewing...It was rough to sit through (but I know TONS of people who love it, so it must be me...)

And to the guy who says Star Wars (and I'm far from some Star wars devotee)....The most overrated movie ever. To "rate" something, I think you have to watch it/see it/read it/etc. You can't just say it's overrated without knowing anything about it (other than the title and genre). That's like me saying eating a dog is overrated because:
a. I would never eat a dog
b. I've never eaten a dog...

Your just can't do it...

Yeah, I am hesitant to see movies based upon hype. I am not a lemming like alot of people are who will deem movies great on a whim.

My brother came back from 300 and all he could do was talk about it. He quoted the movie for months, so when I saw it on DVD I scooped it quick. I gave it to him right after I watched it...I wanted to throw it at his head and say "THIS IS SUCKY MOVIE!"

Who overrates 300? I haven't seen a single person make it out to be more than what it is.

It seems like this thread is starting to turn into "what movies you don't like".
