Re: Oscars 2009
Politics won. Sandra Bullock from The Blind Side, lol! That was like a glorified Disney movie. She was nothing special at all. I thought it was ridiculous she was even nominated. I would have given it to Helen Miren.
Best director I knew would be the chick since it would make a good story. In all honesty, James Cameron freaking developed the technology, wrote the screenplay, and did like everything in Avatar, should have won it.
Best picture I would have guessed Avatar but am not necessarily upset about Hurt Locker winning. It gets the swing vote from the academy for its "statements."Comment

Re: Oscars 2009
I see Bullock's win as more of a lifetime achievement award. Which, in itself is a crock since they never decided to nominate any of those past performances. But while it's a crock, I think that's why she won.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: Oscars 2009
Yeah but all she has ever done is mediocre comedy romance films. Why not nominate Jennifer Anniston?Comment

What 'statement' did the Hurt Locker make? There was not one moment of that movie that leaned towards the Left or the Right.Politics won. Sandra Bullock from The Blind Side, lol! Yeah, worded it wrong. Topical subject matter that is sensitive by nature tends to strike it big at the Oscars.Comment

I think the Academy was trying, and really has been trying for a long time, to make up for ignoring Keanu's virtuoso performance in 1994's "Speed".Comment

Define "caring." Part of the entertainment is watching/discussing who won and who should have won.Comment

Sandra Bulluck is a good actress and gave an Oscar Worthy performance in The Blind Side. Whether she deserved it over her competition is a matter of opinion. She certainly gave one of the most gracious acceptance speeches in Oscar history.Comment

Re: Oscars 2009
I guess any investment in the winning and losing confuses me. Not because accolades have no meaning, but because I don't understand the criteria for selection, and I know that most people don't either. I know who is in the Academy, but I don't know the first thing about their process for determining "best" of anything.
If there were a critical analysis that laid out the standard of excellence, not only would I understand the investment, but I might care myself. As it is, it seems like a dog and pony show that is little more than a collection of paparazzi, fan service, some performances, career acknowledgments and career bumps. None of it seems based on a communally accepted standard.Comment

Re: Oscars 2009
Observing Meryl Streep solidifying her role as the Susan Lucci of the Oscars- Funny
Seeing an undeserving actress win an award from a glorified Disney film- Slightly annoying
Watching Jesse James turn in his mancard -priceless
Dude was like the 07 New York Giants- balllllllllingComment
