    Re: Turbo Tax Software....quick question.

If you made 30,000 or less you can file your federal return for free through Turbo Tax if you go to the following link....

Intuit has elected not to renew its participation in the IRS Free File Program and will no longer be offering IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax. You may still qualify for other IRS Free File Offers at IRS.Gov. Or, if you are looking for a TurboTax product, you may choose to see what products are available.

If you are in one of the following states then you can even file your state return for free as well, otherwise its 9.99....

AL, AR, AZ, GA, ID, IA, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, MS, NY, ND, NC, OK, OR, RI, SC, VT, WV

I have used this free setup for the last 7-8 years, it has kept all my past info in check, gets me my refund much quicker and I get it all taken care off rather quickly. I completed my taxes late last night, it was accepted by the IRS today and it should hit my bank account on Feb. 13th so thats a pretty quick turnaround.

Absolutely...it's all put the number in box "x" into "y", click "OK", blah blah blah.

As long as you have enough stuff (deductions, mortgage interest, student loans, child tax credits, medical, capital gains, etc) to make it worth it.

Thanks Chef. I made less than 30 G's so this will come in handy.

Glad to help, I really like their setup and the fact that it saves all past returns to make things easier to file. If you have any questions just let me know.

turbo tax is very easy and it guides you through the entire thing. You don't have to pay till the very end so you can do it to see what you are getting back. Then if you are happy with everything go ahead and pay for it and e-file it.

did it tonight and did both my Federal and State for free in under a hour. Rhode Island is one of the 21 states that has free state filing. I recommend it to anyone.

Ohio Unfortunately isn't one of the free states, but I still might end up just doing it online and paying the $9.99 for the state return.

It's a lot better deal than going somewhere else and paying upwards of $50.

What's the minimum amount of money you have to make on your W2 form to file taxes?

Did you have any income taxes withheld? If so, file a quick EZ form and be on your way.

If you're on your own you might be liable for the Earned Income Credit as well.

EDIT: From what I found the numbers look to be around $8000 if you are on your own and not claimed as a dependent by anyone else, $4000 if you are claimed as a dependent, and $400 if you are self employed...give or take of course.

For the last 3 years I have been using TaxAct (www.taxact.com). $16.95 includes fed and state efiling. It also imports my info from year to year.

This won't help the OP but if anyone needs to file an Illinois state tax return you can go to the Illinois Department of Revenue website and file your state return for free.
