I heard that she is pregnant with his baby and knew a few days before the fight but didn't tell him because she thought he'd get mad (where would she get that idea??). That would jive with the reports that they're back together though, for what it's worth (i.e. he apologizes to her, she spills the beans on the baby, and they decide to reconcile and try to make it work for the child). Still disappointing on her part obviously, but the timeline makes more sense if that is the case. I think I read that on WWTDD or something.

Self defense where he beats her mercilessly? You can get a woman off of you with some force and then you leave.

Going strictly by reports, they made it seem like he reacted to her but then just kept on beating her. No defense can explain that.

Fair enough I supposed but if Brown was a victim like you mentioned above then why hasnt he said **** to defend himself then? Why didnt he go to the hospital to get things checked out and photos taken? If a guys career could literally come crashing down because of this incident and he has evidence that he was acting in self defense then I would venture a guess that he would either provide that evidence or hes an idiot for not providing it. She has the markings to show, if he was being choked and punched while driving then I dont get why there arent any markings on his face to support this, she doesnt have to be ultra strong to leave a marking behind. Personally I think Chris Browns people are in damage control to attempt to save his career and Rhianna is in love with the guy so she will look beyond what happened, but thats my take from the outside looking in.

You really think he would come out to defend himself after the pics were released, even if she started it by hitting him or whatever...that would be even bigger career suicide (if thats even possible).

No way in hell you come out looking good (as evidenced by this thread) if you come out and say, "yeah, I hit her in self defense."

Those pics of her are frightening...and before people jump down my throat, I'm looking at this from a PR perspective.

Let me play devil's advocate. I'll take that defense if I'm his DA especially if he will testify that she started hitting him while he was driving. Here is what I would say if I was Brown:

"She has a bit of a jealous streak and wehn she saw a text message from a friend of mine she flipped out and started punching me while I was driving the car. I was about to lose control of the vehicle, so I stopped the car and defended myself. She was still upset and threw the keys of my rented lamboughini into the street. When I realized I couldnt find them and that we were stuck there and I lost it. I'd been going through this jealous thing with her before and I couldnt take it anymore."

Add that to the fact that Rihanna probably wont testify against him (maybe even for him) and a sympathetic jury in LA that is easily star struck....equals aquittal. Thats why the DA hasnt pressed charges. He could easily lose this case w/o Rihanna's testimony.

He beat her like she was his worst enemy. A claim of self-defense? If I was the judge in this case, I'd be roaring with laughter. I'm not condoning domestic violence, but a push or a shove, at the most, a backhand across the face, should be sufficient to jolt shorty back to her senses. He didn't beat this broad, he PUMMELED her.

FOX 11 in L.A. obtained LAPD detectives notes from a search warrant in the case. According to the notes, Rihanna read a three-page text message on Brown's phone from a woman. An argument ensued and Brown allegedly tried forcing Rihanna out of the car but couldn't because she was wearing her seat belt.

Brown then allegedly shoved Rihanna's head against the passenger window. When Rihanna turned to face him, Brown punched her, then continued punching her while driving, according to the detective's notes.

Blood spattered all over Rihanna's clothing and in the interior of the car. Her mouth was filled with blood.

Brown allegedly told Rihanna, "I'm going to beat the **** out of you when we get home. You wait and see."

Rihanna called her assistant and left a message saying, "I am on my way home. Make sure the cops are there when I get there."

Brown then replied, "You just did the stupidest thing ever. I'm going to kill you."

According to the report, Brown continued to punch Rihanna, bit her on her ear, her fingers and put her in a headlock -- she almost lost consciousness.

That would be the smart way to defend it. To me that seems obvious to bring up Rihanna's jealousy. However, would that justify beating her? The DA would have to prove through an eye witness that he showed no remorse at the time.

Again, and all I can go on is the crap that I've read about the situation which I know is not always genuine... Brown continued to beat Rihanna past the point where he was defending himself. At the point Rihanna was unconsious/unable to defend herself, his position had changed and he was no longer acting in regards for his safety.

It would then be up to whether or not someone would but that. But yes, her testimony would be vital. If she won't do it "because she loves him" then that's just sad.

Not nearly as simple as people have been painting it... Yes it's disappointing (especially for someone of her stature), but it's not just a case of her being stupid or a glutton for punishment, there are a lot of variables in these situations. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it goes.
