Making the switch from Comcast to Direct TV

Should I do this? I know it's cheaper, but as far as the pros and cons go, what do I lose and what do I gain?
    More/less HD channels?

More channels. What freebies is DTV giving you for switching?

Re: Making the switch from Comcast to Direct TV

I'm actually debating whether to do Comcast or DirecTV because I'm moving into an apartment next week.

My head clearly tells me DirecTV but I'm afraid I won't have a clear view of the Southern Sky from my location (trees surround me).

Really? I'll be on the first floor patio facing east/southeast. I have trees around me but they are just really tall and not wide. I'm just afraid that my signal may go in and out and that concerns me.

Also concerns me having my dish sitting out on my patio. I'd be afraid someone would mess with it.

if you do get the dish, just make sure you dont let the tech leave until you check all your signals. Nothing should be below 80 on a clear day.
I went to driect tv because my town doesnt offer cable. The HD picture seems alot clearer than cable, and I have yet to lose reception. With the awful winter we've had here, thats saying something. I havent gone through a summer yet, so Im not too sure how reception is during heavy Tstorms and budding trees.

Re: Making the switch from Comcast to Direct TV

I have it set to make the switch on Feb 24th. Time warner raised the HD/DVR fee, I'm paying over $100.00 a month and in comparison to DTV, I have less channels.

They are giving me the first 2 months free, all because I said I wasn't sure I wanted to switch. The guy said, "would two free months make you feel different?" My first 12 months will be 54.00 less a month than cable. Unreal. After that, i'tll go up to 74.00.

I have been debating about doing this for a long time but finally gave in.

I guess you went with the Plus HD DVR package?

That's the one I'm looking at. I wanted to add the Sports Pack to it but I want to make sure that those channels would be in HD as well.

And what do you guys do for internet?

I currently have Comcast and do not have a phone line, so I get my internet through Comcast.

That's what I planned on doing.

                    DirecTV + Comcast internet.

How much are you paying monthly for internet?

Getting DirecTV is the best decision you'll make when it comes to entertainment. Go for it.

Try to get a free HD DVR (or two :wink and free HD programming for about 4-6 months.

If you're a college hoops fan, ask for the March Mega Madness package free. College football or NFL, ask for their respective packages. It never hurts to ask.

I did. If you order it, act like you aren't sure and that you really like your cable company. then ask if there's something they can give you that cable can't. The sales people are on commission, so they will do what's in their power to make you say "go for it."

You never know, you might get something more.

Hmmm, I may have to try that. I'm not very good at haggling but I'll try.

Of course, I was trying to do this online and got a pretty sweet deal but then they ran a credit check and now I'd have to pay $300. /sigh

They're going to run a check on the phone too. At least they did with me. I think it's for the DVR/HD..I don't know, but paying an extra $300 isn't fun. I don't think i would have switched if they required that of me.

Does bad weather ruin the reception at all for Direct TV?
