Anyways, I just saw this movie and I thought it was fantastic. I can only imagine what it was like in 3d in an Imax theater but the bluray was just amazing. I didn't really care if the story was unoriginal as you film experts keep saying because I thought it was done very well.

If it's re-released in theaters I am going to make sure I see it. It was hard not to have any expectations going in but I somehow kept it in check and came away very satisfied. This is one of those movies I can watch repeatedly.

My thoughts exactly. Who cares if it's a story that has been told before, it's still a good story. Nearly every movie made is a retelling of SOME type of story or another, whether it be action, suspense, mystery, comedy, or romantic comedy.

This movie is another take on a classic story, and it does a hell of a job of not only retelling it, but reshowing it as well.

            re: James Cameron's "Avatar"

oddly enough I really didn't care for it. I thought the lead actor was terrible, and I just found myself not caring. I thought it was very long in the tooth as well, and another thing that struck me was that it seemed like a disney movie. It really should have been marketed towards children/family - idk, that's the big vibe I got from it after a while because they were doing things that would make more sense to a kid and the characters were simplified caricatures. The genre that fits it best that I would put it under would be "fantasy".

I saw this at home on normal resolution, perhaps I would have enjoyed it more in 3D, which made me think maybe I wouldn't like films I otherwise would as much if I DID see them in 3D because the visuals might be distracting. I say that because I could have used distracting during my viewing. There were just so many useless scenes or ones that were way too long.

I really thought this movie would be awesome, and I'm actually very surprised at how many people think it's simply amazing! I went in knowing nothing much about it so I wasn't tainted in any way.

I think when to compared to a truly great sci-fi movie like the matrix it's clear to me that this movie doesn't have a chance at any of my 'greatest' lists. It just didn't do very much and took and extremely long time to do it.

all the power to those who thoroughly enjoyed it, I just walked away very indifferent and very surprised I felt that way.

Best looking blu ray I have ever seen.

Although better in 3D, it's not a let down at all. Unless you are watching on a tiny tv, then it might suck. Not sure why anyone would want this on DVD...

Not everyone has Blu Rays or HDTVs.

I still haven't seen this film and really have no interest in it, but I guess I'll watch it sometime to see what's up with all the hoopla over it. I doubt I'd like it as flashy graphics don't do much for me, but I guess you never know. The plot seems rehashed, which also doesn't exactly peak my interest as there will not be much mystery while watching the film, which is what makes drama films great.

Lol i wouldn't go that far. We all like different stuff, i liked the movie and can't wait for my blu ray to arrive from Amazon but there's bound to be heaps of people who dislike it as well. As something gets more popular it always become more "cool" to dislike it as well.

yes and there are heaps of people without tender hearts

your right though, there are also plenty of people who tend to dislike things that are too popular or "overrated'

I'm not one of those people if that was implied. I love all kinds of movies popular and not. In fact, I actually wanted to like the movie and went in thinking I would.

I'm fully aware of what people are being critical of too, - the whole story part being Pocahontas or whatever really doesn't bother me. Some of the characters, the duration and some of the direction did.

I wouldn't fault anyone for thoroughly enjoying it though, I was just surprised how it didn't do anything for me.

Makes perfect sense, and despite my almost disturbing love for this movie (lol), I have absolutely no problem with people not liking it. We all have our opinions, and we all like different things. That's what makes us human.

What I hate is when dudes come in here and BASH others for enjoying this film. It's absolutely ridiculous. Luckily, those basement dwellers typically get
