So, Avatar is being re-released August 27 exclusively in Digital 3D and Imax 3D only. Its the extended version which apparently offers, get this, 8 minutes of additional footage. I think its unbelievable that they are going to try and milk the consumer by adding a miniscule 8 minutes back into the movie. I personally thought the movie sucked so I wont be paying to see an extra 8 minutes but I would imagine there might be one person here who will.

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
They announced that they would be re-releasing it before the first version came out so this isn't a surprise. There's going to be another version probably around Christmas that's going to have all the stuff that people expect a blu ray to have.
Edit: I completely read that wrong. Wonder how much money it'll make.Last edited by jmood88; 07-11-2010, 05:56 PM.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Meh. As much as I loved the movie, don't really think it's worth it to go rewatch it in theaters. Saw it more than enough times. Wonder what the 8 minutes consists of, though.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
I only saw it once the first time, but wanted to see it at least one more time in on the big screen in 3D. I might have to go back when its re-released.

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
The movie was awesome and I never got a chance to see it a second time. They could release it with no extra footage and I'd be happy. I just want to see it again in 3D, since I can't do that in my own home.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
I wouldn't say they are milking customers by re-releasing it. You are giving people who haven't seen it how it was meant to be seen a chance to see it, and those who wish to view it again have a chance now. It's a totally different experience going from Imax to a 50" TV.
Milking would be applied more to how Harry Potter and Twilight franchises are splitting their final movie into 2 seperate movies to make double the bank. Because lets be realistic, if you have seen the rest you are gonna pay to see them both.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
Making the final Harry Potter book two movies is one of the best decisions anyone in Hollywood has made recently, in my opinion. Fans of the Harry Potter series such as myself are finally going to get the kind of amazing book-to-movie transition we've always wanted. They split it up to have the ability to give fans more-or-less the ENTIRE final novel. That's not milking, that's giving the real fans what they want.
An example of "milking" would probably be something like the current sequel trend, or the re-hashing trend, where Hollywood is simply pumping out movies about a specific topic/story because they figure that'll sell, no matter how well the movie is made.
Also, I'll probably end up catching another viewing of it in the 3D IMAX when it gets re-released.Last edited by Beantown; 07-11-2010, 09:38 PM.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
Milking would be the Shrek franchise, IMO.
With Avatar, as was already said, I know people who wish they saw it but for some reason never did. I saw it 5 times on IMAX, so I think I'm all Avatar'd out.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
My parents just watched this on DVD
I borrowed the blu ray from a friend and it had the DVD in with it. I walked in and noticed it looked like blah, but I just figured it was their 4 year old DLP TV. I take it out later and it's the DVD.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
I just hope they don't find out one day that all these 3d movies / tv cause irreparable damage to people's vision. Like that Aziz Ansari guy said at the mtv movie awards "I really love 3d movies but then again i also really like headaches as well".Comment
