Re: Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

I don't know why but I like Fallon. Last night's show wasn't much though.

Of course, Conan's show is great and he does all kinds of ridiculous skits that are not funny and a waste of time like last nights "like it for 10" but are somehow still great in their own way. Fallon and his writers and production team will settle in sooner or later and I will watch, mostly because of The Roots.

I didn't think it was much worse, if at all, than any other late night talk show... Especially since DeNiro was giving him nothing to work with.

He's trying to put his own spin on things, like "Slow Jam the News" with the Roots and the singing with JT... I applaud him for that.

        1. I think it was already said that DeNiro is not particularly a talk show guy.
        2. DeNiro doesn't really owe Jimmy Fallon anything. (To quote a once famous parody, he has "chunks of guys like you in my stool.")

DeNiro was a bad first guest if they knew he was a boring interview. It should of been someone else really famous that had a history with Fallon so it was a more comfortable interview.

Tonight you got Tina Fey and Jon Bon Jovi. His writers didn't do him a favor, terrible jokes. As for the "Lick It For Ten" thing, how about having them lick something that makes you think if it's worth it or not. Either that or just pick cute girls to do all the licking.

On the positive side, much less sweating tonight. On the negative side, still not anything special or funny really.

This is so Larry Sanders thread! I can imagine Conan watching the new show in bed like Larry here:

                    <EMBED src=http://www.youtube.com/v/drYf8gp-0Cg&hl=en&fs=1 width=425 height=344 type=application/x-shockwave-flash allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></EMBED>

                    EDIT:
I really hope for Fallon that he has someone like Artie to help him out.

Re: Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

I'm not the biggest Fallon fan, but I've watched both nights and I think he's going to be fine. It seems like he's trying to speak to a younger audience. I always felt that Letterman was extremely mature, with Leno and Conan being mostly mature with their jokes. Fallon is going for a younger appeal and why wouldn't he? The younger audience is the one that likes him.

So, I can't see how anyone that loved Conan would love Fallon. Or rather, I can see how someone that loved Conan won't love Fallon. Two very different personalities catering to two very difference audiences.

And it seems that Fallon and his writers did a decent job poking fun at him and his first show. I can appreciate a guy who can take criticism and use it against himself.

I completely disagree. Conan catered to the younger audience perfectly. The Chuck Norris Lever, Masturbating Bear, Horny Manatee ...how is that for mature audiences?

im with you, Conan is the most immature talk show host ive ever watched and thats why i love him, he goes for the 17-28 age range mainly

I stayed away from age group because I didn't mean mature as in age. I meant mature as in content. I felt that most of his jokes, while definitely immature in nature, actually provoked some thought to understand. He was deeper than the surface of the comedy.

Fallon is never going to be deep.

This is the truth, Conan is by far the best guy on late night and it isn't even close.

Leno is ok at best, and Letterman is mostly hit or miss.

Didn't catch Fallon's show live, but I personally hate the guy and don't see myself watching it much.

but his time slot also gave him the opportunity to do things like that. Moving to Leno's slot is more mainstream and will potentially put a tighter leash on the kinds of skits and jokes he can do. So Conan might be making a lot more money or whatever, but he also risks losing the appeal he has.
