Dumb & Dumber-I've seen it many times before but I bought it over the weekend and watched it last night. I love it, one of my all time favorite comedies. So dissapointed they took out part of the hot-tub scene, that is one of the funniest scenes in the movie. Anyways this movie is great, Jim Carrey is hilarious.

Wait, are you serious? I bought the Blu-ray and was pissed with every single addition in the movie, it made Lloyd seem like a perv (and I'm not even going to get into the Seabass bathroom scene). I was very disappointed that not only they decided to add this stuff into the BD, but that I don't even have the option to view the regular theatrical version.

Oh, and the extended Petey scene... unbefreakinlievable.

Godspeed-Incredibly boring. I thought it looked like a decent Netflix instant watch movie but I turned it off halfway through and watched The Office.

To each their own I suppose. I almost regret purchasing the Blu-ray because of the additions to what already seemed to be the perfect comedy. The amount of raunchiness added (not much, but enough) didn't do it for me.

I liked it, that is weird that they didn't give viewers the option of watching the theaterical version.

The Illusionist. Decent flick. I like Giamati and Norton so it kind wins by default. Nothing to write home about but it kept me awake and entertained.

Date Night: I loved it. I thought it was hilarious throughout. And I feel like Carell and Fey took a halfway decent movie and elevated it by bringing their own small touches and I would assume improvisations to their roles.

Fair Warning: I love everything Tina Fey makes. And that probably tainted my opinion. So, take my loving the movie with a grain of salt.

I watched this last night and it was "ok" but nothing too special imo. A pretty solid comedy but not too many LOL moments. My wife seemed to like it more than I did though.

I never really thought of Tina Fey as a sex symbol before but she looked pretty damn good in this movie i thought. Maybe i'm just getting old.

The Last Exorcism

I'll give you my spoiler-free opinion on what the title means: this will be the last exorcism movie ever made, because after people see this they will not want to see another one again.

The movie was honestly pretty awful, and is a direct result of an ending tarnishing the build-up it had. That isn't to say it was a great build-up to begin with, but everything builds up to something (except Broken Flowers). I must say, there was more relieving comedy than there were tense moments. The laughing bits were certainly intentional, but there weren’t any scares to back it up.

It was a strange “documentary style” movie in that it wasn’t completely documentary-like. Yes, there was a camera man (who seemed to be more involving as the movie went on) and yes people made mention about the camera itself, but if there were any cuts or edits the sound seemed to transition just fine as if there wasn’t a gap, and there was background music in times as well. More so around the beginning it was edited like most reality shows are edited as well, where there is background commentary along with the foreground events.

One thing I want to say, though… I think this movie should have been a hard R. I’m not saying this because of the amount of blood (though there were some pretty graphic shots, I’ll say that much) but the gore content in general plus the amount of religion involved in it. I just think that some of the content in this movie would not only go way over a 13 year old teenager’s head, but that this isn’t the kind of material that they should be watching anyway. Hell, my sister is 16 years old and even if the movie was good I wouldn’t be promoting this for her. There was minimal cussing, but like Taken sometimes the movie’s material usage probably should be considered by the MPAA (though I do understand why Taken was PG-13 at the same time).

For those who look at Rotten Tomatoes, the movie does not run at 100 minutes, only 87. I highly recommend that you do not spend your money on this. I shouldn’t describe the crowd’s reaction to the ending credits appearing on screen, but if you expect an applause from any movie this would not be it. The acting was believable, there is no reason to fault them for anything. This was just another exorcism movie though, that's it and that's all.

By the way, the whole time I thought the lead character was Woody Harrelson on a good day.


EDIT: Okay, I realize I am being very harsh on the movie here and this is probably undeserving. I am mostly disappointed in the "build up to this?" kind of ending as well as this movie really having zero replayability factor.

I've seen it before but had the urge to watch it again, and it's still good even though I already know what's going to happen. Just a wonderful film all around that didn't get the box office numbers it deserved when it was released. Check it out if you haven't, and try not to know anything about it going in.

The Other Guys-9/0 I haven't laughed like that in a while. That movie is fully of worthy quotes. My goodness, Ferrel and Walhberg did an excellent job. Definitely one of the funnier movies of the year.

Well I haven't posted about a movie in a long time so I feel compelled to rectify that. This afternoon I watched a 1991 movie called True Colors. Let's get to it:

Plot Summary

Peter Burton and Tim Garrity both meet when they go to law school. Tim comes from an affluent family, while Peter comes from the working class, which he is a bit ashamed of. Tim's a noble person who wants to do what is right, while Peter's willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead. And that includes blackmail and intimidation. And when his latest scheme burns Tim, Tim decides to find out if Peter deliberately betrayed him or if the man he works, John Palmeri made him do it and if so to make them answer for it

My Thoughts/Review

Well this is essentially the yuppie version of Robert Redford's The Candidate in a lot of ways. It's an ok movie however details seem a bit glossed over and the script could've used some tightening up and further details on the situations in the story. Nonetheless the pair of John Cusack and James Spader do a good job in this movie. Spader is perfectly cast as the overly idealistic Garrity as he looks almost like a boy in a lot of his scenes especially early on in the film. This physical trait hammered home the point that Garrity is a babe in the woods in a lot of ways so while Spader's acting in some scenes leaves a lot to be desired his body language and looks compensates. Cusack on the other hand has no such handicap and is a dynamo. He oozes charm and you can really see him being the manipulative Burton quite easily. There's a scene after Garrity finds out that Burton is really from a working class background and they're talking about their fathers and Cusack gives such a look that expresses sadness and concern as well that you almost forget you're watching a movie.

This, of course is the key to the whole film as the Burton character is manipulative to the extreme in order to get his way. He weasels in on Garrity's relationship with influential Connecticut senator Jim Stiles' daughter and going so far as to literally break up their impending marriage once there's a strain in it as Diana is ambitious as well and wants to be with a politician rather then someone who aspires to work in the Dept. of Justice. Despite this, and Garrity nearly having his friend killed in a skiing accident they patch things up.

Burton's manipulation knows no bounds as one point in the film he blackmails the senator played by Richard Widmark in his last big screen role into getting his support in Burton's run for congress. Unfortunately Burton's manipulations will cost him as his main source of campaign funds is through a shady guy with organized crime ties. This leads to Garrity getting into big trouble at the DOJ as Burton had him check on a contractor when there was nothing wrong with said contractor.

The movie does a great job of showing the Burton character as someone immensely likable but at the very same time being as double dealing and manipulative as a seasoned politico despite his youthful years. The betrayal of everyone close in his life in order to get exactly what he wants is a bit predictable in saying but the execution of it is quite good on film. It makes you wonder if ALL politicians in DC are THAT driven for success. As i've said earlier the script could've been a little better as the movie starts in 1983 when the main characters meet in college and ends on election night 1990. The movie actually starts just before the results of the election comes in and goes into flashback leading up to that moment where the movie reaches its climax. I thought that was pretty clever but a lot of the college and early DC years seem extremely rushed in some ways.

The movie isn't exactly ENTERTAINING in the broad sense but it's interesting and the acting performance by Cusack kept me engaged. The overall story arc is predictable but the movie somehow kept me involved. One last thing before I go, I have to mention Widmark as this was his last movie. He doesn't do very much but the scene where Burton blackmails him on the golf course is a sparkling tour de force. Even though Widmark was clearly at the end of his career (he would do narration on a TV project a year later and that's it) he showed flashes of fiery dynamo he was 40 years earlier.

Overall I give this movie a solid 2.5 stars

"Date Night" Entertaining. Not a big Tina Fey fan from her SNL days, but she presented more palatable in this. Carrell is just Carrell. He can handle both big and small screens.
