The first hour of "The Other Guys" with Will Farrell is absolutely hilarious. After that, meh.

Batman: Under the Red Hood. Its a direct to dvd/bluray animated movie. It was really good, I thought. It took awhile for me to get accustomed to different voice actors playing the Joker and Batman, but I thought everybody did good. I've always liked the Death in the Family and Red Hood story arcs, so I thought this was awesome. Definitely worth watching for any Batman/comic fan.

Superbad - I watched this on bluray last night. I had seen it before, but it had been awhile. Overall the movie is hilarious and one of the best "last night of high school" movies, but there's some problems that kind of make watching it kind of a buzz kill. Seth's character is just so negative and bitchy the whole movie. The first half is alright, but after awhile all his bitching just gets kind of old and brings ya down. The part where cops/McLovin meet up with Evan and Seth. The rest of the cops and Foggle storyline is hilarious, but the whole gun scene is just too out there serious for me and messes with the flow of the movie and is kind of a buzz kill. Still on the whole this movie is hilarious and a ton of awesome scenes.

^^^^ I hadn't seen any of the animated Batman movies, so I had low expectations. I thought it was really good.

Superbad is one of my favorite movies, but you are right. Seth's negativity does get old after a while. It does fit perfectly for the scene where Fogel gets his fake ID.

Cloverfield is about twice as good on Blu-Ray with surround sound. I love that movie. Sure, it starts really slow, and it's really short, but once the monster attacks it's a thrill ride. Also:
"I'm just saying how scary would it be if a flaming homeless guy came running at us right now?"

First time I've watched it on our home theater. I just picked up the Blu-Ray today to replace the DVD copy I had.

Didn't like it. Rarely laughed and thought some of the jokes were sick and tasteless. Like a grown men version of SuperBad with some Hangover mixed in.

                Really meh.

Machete - It was completely ridiculous and over the top. Only thing it was lacking was a nice hot threesome from Alba, Michelle, and Lohan. Loved it.

Seeing that the sequel will be in theatres soon I decided to watch the original Wall Street. For some reason this movie never caught my attention as I always got bored by it when I was younger. Boy did I miss out on a gem!

Michael Douglas was born to play Gordon Gekko. I find it amusing that Oliver Stone was so naive as to think that the Gekko character wouldn't become an icon to those wanting to get into the world of high finance. The charisma of the character and the application of greed for well, in his words "good" is the mantra of Wall Street investors and corporate bigwigs today. Sure, the whole "greed is good" thing died down a bit in the early '90s after all the financial scandals but you knew it was going to come back in vogue again.

Interestingly the studio originally wanted Warren Beatty to play the role but he turned it down. I don't think Beatty could pull off this kind of character anyways. Stone then went to Richard Gere who turned him down also. I don't think Gere even in his prime ever had the gravitas to pull off the character as well. Stone went to Douglas as a last resort even after everyone in Hollywood told him not to cast him in the role. It's kinda neat how some of these casting choices are made that lead to some great roles for great actors.

I liked how the movie didn't shove the Gekko character down your throat but rather chose to tell the story through Charlie Sheen's Bud Fox character. Here you had this young guy struggling to make it in the world of high finance and he's seduced by the lure of easy money and he gets trapped by that allure to the point that he abandons the principles his father taught him as a kid. This brings us to Martin Sheen who played the younger Sheen's son. Charlie was very stiff in his role which suited the whole "babe in the woods whose easily seduced" aspect of the role but in the scenes with his father it changes changes quite a bit. There's a lot of life to Charlie's acting when he's with his dad and the bond between them is quite engaging. Charlie had the choice of either Jack Lemon or his father for the father role in the movie and he wisely chose his old man.

Anyways, I found the movie to be fascinating and a great insight into the dog eat dog world of Wall Street, corporate raiding and loose ethics. Stone had to throw some preaching against the Free Market System through Bud Fox's father but otherwise it worked well. I think one scene really encapsulated the movie for me and it showed why the Gordon Gekko character is so enthralling. That scene is the "Greed is Good" speech at the Teldar Paper stockholders meeting. Gekko shoots down the entire corporate structure of Teldar and then talks about how greed is what makes America great and how they should support his takeover of the company. You know that Gekko is feeding them a line of bull because he doesn't REALLY care about them but he twists the facts to suit his needs and in such a charming way that you can't help but side with him.

All in all this was a fantastic movie with great characters, lots of very capable actors (except for Darryl Hannah) and a story of seduction, corruption and eventual redemption.

I just hope the sequel will be just as good.

The Other Guys. This started out relatively good with some offbeat chuckles and unexpected scenes, but then it just fell off. Some of the obscure humor just seemed really forced and it didn't help with plot cohesion. I don't understand all the hoopla for this flick.
