 Hey, not a bad movie!

Haven't seen it in a while though; it will probably now be the first Blu-ray I pop into my PS3 when returning home next week.

 Speaking of your avatar...

 I'll definitely be getting this Blu-ray by Black Friday. This and My Cousin Vinny are probably my two favorite comedies.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

PC load letter? What the **** does that mean?Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

I watched The Wrestler last night. Truly awesome movie, Mickey Rourke was perfection and the rest of the cast was top-notch as well. It was one of the most depressing films I have ever watched, not a good way to go to bed, haha.

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

I had some problems with the movie. I understand the style, but it was just kind of out there in some regards. The wrestling scenes were pretty jaw dropping, but the indie style kind of overtook some aspects of this movie that IMO weren't necessary, especially the main camera style being behind Rourke. Again, totally understandable, but just not my cup of tea.

 Also I found the father-daughter relationship very, very bizarre. It was powerful and gripping, but at times almost too crazy. Makes you wonder if this portrayed some people's lifestyles very accurately.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

I understand what you mean about the camera style, Blzer. At first it kind of threw me for a loop because I wasn't really expecting it to me a kind of documentary type angles from behind and that close, but I felt it helped maintain a stronger connection with Randy than a more traditional style would have allowed. Plus, I felt like the production of the film mirrored Randy's life style with its low-fi quality.

The daughter and father relationship, I felt was very true to life. It definitely didn't feel like a hokie, Hollywood side-story, it felt real. ERW was fantastic.

The wrestling scenes were awesome, for sure. It definitely makes you look at the sport in a new light.

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

EDIT: Might as well put everything in spoilers just in case (this is for The Wrestler)

 Spoiler
Again, understandable. I wouldn't really want to see something out of a Michael Bay movie, but I always anticipated that maybe that camera angle would bring something more. Not like "scares" or anything, but that it would sort of bring about some nice anticipation shots is all. I guess I was just underwhelmed, though I do appreciate the originality effort.I understand what you mean about the camera style, Blzer. Oh, most definitely, that's why I was thinking to myself whether it was so seemingly true-to-life that it in fact wasn't if that makes sense. You know, I don't come from a family or a place where I have ever realistically experienced a father-daughter relationship like this, so I don't know how harsh it can really be. It hit me in some respects, but I just had to sit and wonder if people really have it that bad. I expect that they do, but I just haven't seen that conveyed like that. The daughter and father relationship, I felt was very true to life. It definitely didn't feel like a hokie, Hollywood side-story, it felt real. ERW was fantastic.

Yeah, it definitely does. Plus the stuff that Rourke actually had to do like cut his forehead with glass (I think that's what he did). It was harsh, brutal, and actually almost unwatchable at times to think that they actually do this stuff to themselves along with the stuff they put in their bodies. The wrestling scenes were awesome, for sure. It definitely makes you look at the sport in a new light.

I also found it kind of displeasurable to see Marisa Tomei naked. She has a rockin' body indeed, but she was always kind of one of those people (especially at her age now) that I kind of liked that she didn't get in a film like this, at least that I have seen. Not to say that her role was overkill because it was perfect, but I liked the scenes with her like when they sung Ratt in the bar. I guess in the end it's just a movie that would be tough for me to watch with my parents is all, that and it's not too re-watchable.

And for some, the ending will leave a lot to be desired. They delivered the message that they wanted to, but I think people wanted to know a little more about what happens "after" if that makes sense. Again, I got the message, but it's one of those things that makes you wonder if that's the only message they wanted to show.

Oh, and I actually really did like the opening shot of the movie. One single fluid shot of all of those articles panning downward with radio clips in the background. That was awesome.

I guess I liked it more than I initially said, but I also just "don't" like it if that makes sense. I think the movie maybe made me angry that people really live out their lives like that, sleeping in a van and playing Nintendo with a digressing body and neglectful daughter. I think it's one of those movies that would be better to be as a book than an actual film.Last edited by Blzer; 08-11-2009, 02:32 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Last movie I saw at the theater is Public Enemy. I like anything that has to do with mobsters. Also I know alot on Dillinger being that i lived about 30 minutes away from the Indiana Jail that he broke out of. Comment
