Is this the one with Charlize Theron? That's what my sister said; she said it was a lot more depressing than she anticipated, despite what the ads made it out to be.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Audition
I thought this was heralded to be one of the more disgusting/disturbing films of all time? I'd say it missed that mark by a long shot, but that's okay anyway. The mere idea that I went into the film having that preconceived notion just shows how ****ed up I am all the same.
But no, seriously... aside from maybe two squeamish moments (perhaps three, but I almost consider two of them to be one the same), the gore substance is pretty much left off screen. It's not even an ultra disturbing film in general, and in fact it actually has a pretty nice developing story. The last half hour almost seemed to tail off for me, but once it finished I gave a good ten minutes of thinking about it, and I realized that the last part gives the rest of the film a lot of layers to work with. It has depth that's worth discussing with other people who care enough to share their opinion about what this movie was really about.
On the top layer, it's a bit of a downer. Once you dig deep into it (and should one ever re-watch it afterward), I'm sure there will be a lot more to enjoy about the main character arc. But a disgusting film? I wouldn't really put it up there with the worst of them.Last edited by Blzer; 07-11-2012, 05:07 AM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Agreed completely. Denzel is just amazing to watch as an actor, but everything else was average at best. Denzel's just so great though lol. Probably my favorite actor.NFL: Bills

I agree about Safe House, though I thought Ryan Reynolds did pretty good playing in a non-comedy role. Still an average movie but not a complete waste because of Reynolds and Denzel. The ending was bad.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Shutter (2004)
Asian horror films are just naturally creepy, there's no way around it. Take the exact same film, put in American actors and the English language, and it just wouldn't be as creepy. It doesn't help that Hollywood tries to do more than they should, and muck it up anyway... which lends me to believe that the U.S. 2008 remake was a tanker. So, I watched this one as a middle of the night viewing. Probably not the best thing to do before going to bed.
Not that it was the scariest film that I've ever seen, but because it taps on the idea of being alone and never feeling safe (even in your dreams) would start to make you feel vulnerable during this time. Plus, it is about spirits being seen in photographs. Why can't that freak someone out?
It was an okay film, kept me awake and on the edge. There were some good startle scenes, and some small things here and there that reminded me of 1408, of all films. I'm on a bit of a horror film binge on Netflix, so if anybody wants to advise any others (especially foreign ones), throw them out there.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I've heard Insidious and Frozen are pretty scary. Haven't seen them, but my dad said he saw them and they were pretty freaky.Comment

Not too many films "scare the ****" out of me, so I don't really know what to recommend in this case. I will always defer to The Ring, and maybe Paranormal Activity if you still haven't seen it. Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I saw both. Insidious was admittedly creepy until the final third of the film. They take you out of their own element and make things too expository for the worse. Frozen isn't a scary movie in terms of jump scares, but it's scary in its own right. Stuck on a stopped chairlift on a snowy mountain? Yeah, think about that one overnight. Neither film is bad in my eyes, so I would recommend them.
