Hangover 3. Definitely better than the second; not as good as the first. Of course, they set the bar high with the first. I enjoyed it, but I hope they stop here.

      Green Lantern

It wasn't as good as the other superheroes movies that have been put out in the past 10 years or so, but it was a solid movie as that's a pretty hard character to do without making it so cheesy.

Just got done watching The Cabin in the Woods. Wow, really something. I mean this is one of those movies I don't think I could even possibly talk with someone about until they've seen it. It's not at all what I was expecting, and that's a good thing. It truly leaves you guessing at times, and the end is so perfect, but could probably only work for this movie. I'd call it a dark comedy, and it's a damn good one. Stoner guy, Marty, is my favorite character, with sweet redhead coming in second. Awesome. I definitely recommend it, just open up and don't think too hard, then maybe give it a go at the end if you're into the analysis of larger themes and such.

Just watched End of Watch. Didn't do much for me. I'm convinced half of the script was made up of "f bombs" and "bro's"

              Astro Zombies

Years of listening to The Misfits song they named after the movie had given me very different expectations. Ok for what it is but was nothing like I thought it was going to be.

I can't deny it's aesthetics, but the story was a mess and had forgettable characters.

Also the tech in the film was more advanced than Alien...which for a prequel is a no-no. The space jockey enigma was better left alone, IMO.
Agreed, but in the age of maximizing profits on a scientific and computational level there's less and less chance of an established series/movie being left untouched and alone. They're doing the same with Blade Runner. Prepare yourself.

The surface features of the movie weren't as good as the thematic ones and visually it was quite striking. That about sums it up. And Fassbender. I couldn't get enough of him.

As for the "tech" the original ship was just an old rigger, right? And the team in Prometheus were sponsored by a massive corporation. Not the best answer, but it makes more sense than some other things in the movie.

I watched two Owen Wilson movies yesterday

                        Bottle Rocket (1996)
                        - Starring the Wilson brothers (Owen & Luke). This is good old fashioned 90s & early 2000s style comedy. One of my favorite Owen Wilson's films hands down. This was a fun ride...

Midnight In Paris (2011) No question about it Paris is a beautiful city and this film captures that. Personally I didn't enjoy it as much. Thought it was overrated.

Kind of like Alien or The Thing underwater.
Good concept but this was average at best. I would like to see the story redone better.

                            The Beast Within

If you like horror movies you'll probably like it. If not then it won't change your mind.

I'm kind of in a rut these last couple days so no big write ups but I've watched a couple movies over the last few days

                              Cattle Queen of Montana (1954)

                              Plot Summary:

The Jones family, about to prove claim to prime Montana land, is raided by renegade Indians in league with villainous neighbor McCord, who gets most of the stolen cattle. Two survivors are helped by college-educated chief's son Colorados. Now Sierra Nevada Jones must fight for her land against legal technicalities and assorted villains. Can she gain the help of McCord's hired gun, Farrell?
This was a little movie starring Barbara Stanwyck and Ronald Reagan and one that was fraught with behind the scenes trouble as Stanwyck was a bit of a challenge to work with and the script was reworked on the fly daily by the stars of the film. It's a pretty uneven film and the patchwork nature of the script can be seen with some of the transitions between scenes where things are referred to but not really shown on screen.

Stanwyck for her part was a little too old to be playing a cattleman's daughter but she makes up for it in her performance in which she did all of her own stunt work. Reagan was somewhat wooden but better than some other flicks i've seen him in. It's a passable time waster as it's not the worst movie i've seen and the same kind of material is handled better by other flicks.

This is a solid 2 stars.

                              Battle for Terra (2007)

This was a pretty ambitious animated film that tried to tackle serious issues but falls apart in a couple ways. Basically this is an invasion story with the earthlings being the bad guys rather than the other way around. The movie at its best when exploring the lives and culture of the people of Terra and honestly I wish the movie could've been more about that rather than the invasion storyline and the somewhat ludicrous setup of some general ousting the Earth Force in order to violently terraform another world.

That being said I did like some of the voice acting especially Luke Wilson as the young Lt. Jim Stanton who befriends Mala after she saves his life after his ship crashes. The bond between the two characters was pretty strong and while some of the moral dilemmas were very cliched the voice acting at least conveyed the emotions well.

The other failing of this movie was the animation. I know that CGI animation wasn't as advanced in 2007 but man was it ever blocky looking on the human characters. At least it looked better when it came to Terra and the Terrians so I guess that's something.

It's a flawed but ambitious effort that while preachy at times I think it's worth seeing.

Hangover 3 - I saw it yesterday and didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. I laughed out loud a couple times and was just happy it wasn't another scene for scene remake in a different country. Not much to say about it, it's OK and very Alan focused. The other guys just seem like their there to say oh Alan you so crazy.

Behind the Candelabra - Watched this a couple of days ago, it kept my attention and was pretty interesting but something about Micael Douglas playing that character didn't really do it for me. I just kept thinking, that's a weird looking Michael Douglas with a lisp. I dunno maybe it's just me but I thought it would have been better with more of an unknown.

Damon was good and I literally knew nothing about Liberace (Spoilers: He's from Wisconsin WTF?) so it was nice to learn a little about him.
