 The Legend of Tarzan

Not going to go on a rant about this one. Basically, what the commercials show you are what the latter half of the film feels more like, whereas the first half of the film feels more like the grounded tone that many films tend to have these days, like providing a "realistic" origin story and the like. That said, I preferred the first half, curiously interested in how the film would end. It churned out a subpar climax for my taste, but it wasn't terrible either. Part of me wishes I was able to see The Jungle Book instead though. I'm not comparing the two films, but they released around the same time and both have that same kind of genre all the same.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

 Hot Fuzz
These Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg movies never get old to me. With each viewing more things just click and pop out. For instance I kept noticing how the set design and props all tie together with plot (ie: all the Swan props). Plus, its just a hilarious script with the perfect homages.

Haha more like "progressive era fantasy adventure outside of western civilization," but yes.

I always find it funny when two movies of the same "genre" coincidentally get released around the same time (and I'm using that term "genre" loosely again, just saying they had a similar idea).

 - Captain America: Civil War / Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
 - A Bug's Life / Antz
 - White House Down / Olympus Has Fallen
 - United 93 / Flight 93
 - The Prestige / The Illusionist
 - Lincoln / Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer

Okay, the last one doesn't count but you get what I mean. I would add Tarzan and The Jungle Book to a list like this as well. but you get what I mean. I would add Tarzan and The Jungle Book to a list like this as well.

 I didn't mention the casting/acting in Tarzan, by the way. Decent choices for Tarzan and Jane, SLJ's inclusion helped keep the tone light which was a good thing, and unfortunately Christoph Waltz and Djimon Hounsou were far too underused/underwritten for my liking.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Or simply put: The jungle adventure movie.

The genre was wildly popular in the '30s, mostly in serial or cheaply made poverty row form. There were a ton of Tarzan movies and others of that ilk in that time frame.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I saw the latest Purge movie at the theater last night. I hadn't seen the first two of the series, but I surprisingly enjoyed it. Mind you, I had low expectations, but there was more plot than I was expecting (although, let's face it, it was mostly the expected mindless killing, haha), and it was a movie that was made better by being seen at the movies, IMO.Comment

Watched Sicario the other night. Not necessarily what I was expecting, but in a good way. Tense movie, interesting plot.

Also watched Miller's Crossing recently. Much like Tarantino flicks, I've found that I really enjoy every Coen Brothers movie I watch. I'll just say the scene with Danny Boy playing is an all-time great to me.Comment

Nick Frost made the movie for me. One of my favorites, still catch myself using some of the one liners. "Shame, Shame"Hot Fuzz

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

LOL it's not like I know all of them! Those were just off the top of my head.

Plus, not all of these movies were in theaters at the same time (though I think the majority of them were). I just mean when it's funny there are two up at the box office and you say, "Hmm... which of these should we go to?"

But you're right, one probably "copies" the other in that sense. I would also think Shark Tale was somehow inspired by Finding Nemo despite its year-later release, though of course those films take years to make so they would have had to have the know-how beforehand (as you said... spies).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
