Speed was on sale for $5, so I bought it and watched it last night. First time I've seen it in years.

Never mind the absurd premise; still a fun, dumb action flick. Well worth the five bucks.

Anybody see Snake Eyes? Was hoping it would be to the G.I. Joe franchise what Bumblebee was to the Transformers franchise. But reviews I've seen have not been kind.

I saw Snake Eyes.

I went into it with an open mind, was just a reason to get out of the house and I'd only just seen a trailer on Black Widow (which I enjoyed, ~B-grade MCU movie IMO, which is still pretty good) and that was it. Looked like it would be a fun action movie with some GI Joe thrown in with the way the trailer laid it out.

Not so much.

Even shutting off your brain, it's hard to really enjoy. There's a lot of fun set pieces and fights, but even some of the fighting is really tough to enjoy (a bit of 'they just unloaded a clip on that guy who only has a sword').

Perhaps fans will enjoy it a bit more.

Thanks. I saw the trailer before BW and got my hopes up it would be a nice step up or five from the awful GI Joe movies. I thought about seeing it in the theater but sounds like I’m better off waiting to rent it.

I started watching the Hobbit movies for the first time. I never really was a huge LotR fan. Matter of fact, the last time I put one of the movies on was to help me take a nap.

But halfway through The Desolation of Smaug, and I'm freakin' hooked.

It was a good trilogy.

LotR (extended versions of course) was a masterpiece.

Had heard a lot of good things about this movie and was told to see it to see what Robert Pattinson can do outside of Twilight (which is really not necessary, I haven't even seen Twilight). He is very good in this movie, his accent was crazy to hear, really good. When Christian Bale was made Batman, I didn't even know he was British so it was whatever. Superman I definitely knew but he's got the look. Tom Holland, now this, these guys just have a knack for superhero roles I guess. Anyway, the movie is kinda hectic and random, has some weird stuff with a 16 year old girl, and then just ends. It felt like half a movie.

There's a (Enterprise I think) commercial that used to air on the YES Network, where a bunch of guys from NY are hanging out in the office and a dude from Boston comes up and says "Hey guys, wicked psyched to be here. You guys ready to rent some cahs?" with the thickest accent imaginable, I always thought it was a joke. Watching this movie, I kept thinking about that commercial. Ben Affleck looks like he's acting in a new age remake of Grease. The love interest storyline was uninteresting to me. Robin Williams is the best part of this movie, and he's not in it that much. The only part of the movie I really enjoyed is the 15 minutes between Ben Affleck telling Matt Damon "if you're here in 20 years I'll kill you myself" and "it's not your fault". And the very end. Throw the rest away.

I love this movie. Visually and sonically just a crazy experience. None of the other Nolan movies really rely on emotion to get you through (other than Inception I guess) and he just nails it here. I fall apart when he's looking through the messages from his kids and going through the sons messages and then Murph pops up, just greatness. There's still some Nolan foolery with an astronaut on a mission to a wormhole having to be explained how wormholes work, why. And the part where Anne Hathaway explains how love might be the force they're looking for was weak, but other than that, great movie all around, love it.

All of the parts of Inception that I didn't care about (the action, the exposition) turned up to 10 and any semblance of emotion or character taken out. This was difficult to get through, fell asleep 3 times in the first 45 minutes on different watch attempts. I remember watching Ballers and thinking I don't know if JDW is a good actor, and my mind has not been changed yet. I can't remember how I felt specifically about his performance in the Spike movie, but I know there's just something about his voice that I don't like, he sounds like a generic NPC in a video game. There's just nothing there.

Cool movie about living in a gentrifying community, apparently there's a show that picks up where it leaves off so I'll check that out. I will say, it kinda reminded me of Sorry to Bother You, in that I thought that movie was amazing right up until everyone turned into a horse. This one kinda had that with the garage rap. They set it up throughout the movie that the guys rap in their free time and the whole make it sound pretty thing was there, but it just felt nuts seeing this guy freestyling with a gun in this cop's face. What should've been a really intense moment was made weird for me, it was hard not to laugh.

Fate of the Furious (3/5)

Rewatched this to get amped for 9, perfectly serviceable movie. What I noticed this time with all of the Rock-Vin Diesel beef in my mind is The Rock is my favorite part of this movie, and Vin is my least favorite. This guy thinks this is something much more serious than it really is.

Which brings me to 9, which does not have the Rock. I like these movies, so at their worst I will still enjoy them, but this one was just boring at times. Entirely too much time spent in flashbacks. Dom having a brother we've never heard of doesn't make sense but there was probably a way to pull it off, they did not. John Cena sucks in this. There's a part where Shaw's mom mentions to Dom that she saw someone with similar features (supposed to be John Cena) and I burst out laughing at the idea that Dom and John Cena look anything alike. Tyrese was great in 8, and again in 9, but it's like he's the only one allowed to tell a joke. I bet the Rock looked at this script, had Vin Diesel yelling at him like they're making some classic film, and told him this is not Mission Impossible and you are not Tom Cruise, relax. Han really had no reason to be in this but if we're doing this bring back Gisele.

For the first hour, a 5/5 movie. I heard it was a horror movie, and I don't like horror movies, but figured I'd check it out. In the beginning, I was really happy to see it was just a space exploration movie where the vastness of space is the horrifying creature they had to survive, and it was great. And then like an hour and 15 minutes in, Freddie Krueger comes in outta nowhere and it's just like wut. Then he leaves, and they have the incredible scene where Cillian Murphy is trying to get over to the other ship with the dope score blaring in the background, and then Freddie comes back. Just dumb. 10/5 score, 5/5 first hour, but it just fell apart at the end, for no reason.

Big Amy Adams fan, she grew on me alot rewatching the DC movies, I like her a lot as Lois Lane. Anyway, this is the kinda movie I wanted Inception to be, just in the way it uses science fiction and the alien invasion more as a backdrop to explore this woman's life than the main thing, I wish they would've focused more on the Cobb-Mal relationship than the dream invasions. Either way, I was pretty into the movie all the way through and then when the time manipulation stuff I was skeptical, and then when it ended with her agreeing to have a child, and I remembered that it started with a live action Up sequence about her daughter, and that we saw the things leading up to it, I realized that this is essentially sci-fi Memento and there's no way sci-fi Memento gets anything other than 5 stars.

I only watched Arrival a couple of months ago because someone who I react to whose taste I trust said that it was flames, and yep it's an underrated and under watched sci-fi gem. Although I completely disagree with you on where Rises and Tenet go in the Nolan hierarchy, I salute your recognition of Interstellar as the Nolan GOAT.

Hand That Rocked The Cradle (1992)

Pretty suspenseful flick but too many advantages given to the evil antagonist ( Rebecca De Mornay) the biggest one being hired as the nanny in the first place followed by her ability to break into a house at will. Then the smartest person in the movie (portrayed by Julianne Moore before she became a star) dumbs down

The Little Things: Absolutely loved this movie. Strong performances by the three main actors. Some good twists. I know the critics kinda shat on it. But I give it a 5/5.

Gunpowder Milkshake: Liked it. Karen Gillan and Chloe Coleman were very good. The rest ok. 3.5/5.

The Suicide Squad: I saw this was getting really good ratings and critical acclaim. I just didn't like it. I love Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and King Shark was pretty cool, and some of the action scenes were really good, but it actually might be my least favorite DC film. 2/5.

The Suicide Squad

This thing is absolutely ridiculous. Bonkers. Two minutes in, and you'll realize what kind of film is going to lead you the rest of the way. I'm glad my cinema played this movie loudly, because I was in a constant giggle lingering from past moments so often that anyone within earshot would've gotten annoyed quickly. This movie isn't necessarily for everybody, but those who find it within their level of entertainment will have their wishes fulfilled.

You can really get a grasp of what James Gunn can do without being restricted by the producers and the MPAA, and how his sensibilities translate on-screen to something so absurd that it transcends the comic book genre, saying: "You're going to take me there, to that extreme? Okay, I'll go with you on that." Other writers/directors who do this can lose you, but Gunn throws so much at you that it simply works. He doesn't pander when he offers an over-indulged soundtrack as it is momentous for the scene or event, and his characters all have a certain amount of charm and wit whether they are good guys or bad guys.

What I found interesting with this movie is that I didn't necessarily have a need to say: "This is what a Suicide Squad movie should be like, David Ayer!" I really think they both fit and have their story to tell. I didn't love Ayer's Joker or his main villain, and WB got way in the way during post-production so we didn't see his vision completely unfold, and yet although the film is inferior to Gunn's film by my opinion I still think it has a place. It doesn't need to be ignored, as we have returning characters and perhaps a continuation of the timeline if you will (not that it acknowledges the other film, but actors reprise their roles and seem to have their continued arcs in play). Although this seems like a bit of a do-over and although it doesn't feel too much like it's tonally in the same universe, these two movies can still certainly coexist. I didn't expect that to happen.

I think most items paid off and literally actor/actress delivered in portraying their character. Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Margot Robbie, Daniela Melchior, Sylvester Stallone, and Viola Davis were all great. What's crazy is that Harley Quinn has an action sequence that completely thwarts anything from her standalone film, making that look like child's play. You'll be grinning ear-to-ear when you see it. You can really see a crew that works hard to bring Gunn's vision to life, and they seem to have a complete ball doing it. I do think it was a little too long and I'll see how a rewatch works with its length, but as a movie that has no business of being greenlit on paper, it strangely worked without being too try-hard to do so.

Although it's not my favorite of them (the pacing in the story timeline is a bit off, several jokes don't land, it can feel a little one-note after two hours), this is easily the most entertaining DCEU film to date, and I'm excited to see what else Gunn can bring to the table when WB decides to work with him again.

I'm one of the few people who enjoyed the first Suicide Squad and even its Joker.

This new version was definitely better though, and I think that we can all agree that this was Sly's best performance ever. The cast worked well together, and it knew what it was from the beginning which was a plus.


I do agree that it was a little too long. They probably could have consolidated a few scenes that didn't really add much to the entertainment value or story.

I'm one of the few people who enjoyed the first Suicide Squad and even its Joker.

I'm going to find some of my old posts, but I know after seeing an advanced screening of the first film I may have overhyped it saying that people would have a good time with it, only for many to be let down by the things that it didn't really do the best (though I mentioned all my nagging bits at the same time).

I know I had a conversation with others about things I would've rewritten though, especially regarding character motivations. Who knows, maybe they are things that David Ayer had in his original cut? I really wish we got that cut, though. Like I said, I'm going to find those posts again and see what my pitfalls were upon repeat viewings. I know the main villain was one of them (and their fate).

The main problem with the Joker at the time for me was that he was both a bit underused (and was just 'there') and got in the way when involved. I don't mind what they went for though. When I just say "I didn't love it," I mean that I'm supposed to. Literally every other on-screen Joker I've seen has been awesome: Nicholson, Ledger, Phoenix, Monaghan, Hamill... he's hard to not love in portrayals. With Leto, he was just 'there.' What started off as a selling point for the film just fell to the wayside for me.
