I have never been into a Tomb Raider franchise because I can't stand Angelina Jolie, but I saw the new version with Alicia Vikander twice in two days about a month ago and it really caught me off guard how much I enjoyed the movie. A lot of fun, an excellent music, and Alicia as Lara is plain awesome.

I actually liked it so much that I got myself all three Tomb Raiders on my PS4 Pro since then. Nicely stored in my backlog but sure hope I can get into them sooner rather than later.

That's awesome! I liked the movie as well, and look forward to the sequel. One thing I like the movie refrained from was going supernatural right when I thought they were going to, and yet they didn't. Sadly, sequels mean escalation, so it's likely they'll throw something in too otherworldly for my tastes. I sure hope they don't.

And I love the TR video games, or at least the first two. I had a bad experience with the last one (Shadow of the Tomb Raider) while renting it, but it was short-lived and I'll go back to it at some point especially now that I have a high-powered PC.

I was actually a (smallest) bit disappointed by them not going supernatural but I have to admit that for them to do that, it was totally unexpected and in hindsight, a good thing for the movie.

And there will be a sequel??? Oh yes!

2.5 stars outta 4

The original is a 4 star film for me.

So was it good? Yeah it was pretty good but completely unnecessary and even Eddie Murphy who is a brilliant comedic actor knew this.

It was more of a trip down memory lane, with some very funny moments. But overall I would never have an urge to ever watch it again.

The original? I can watch over and over and over anytime.

Attack the Block
This was a fun watch overall if it was a bit of a weird atmosphere channeling The Goonies, ET, and American hip-hop through an urban UK lens. Hilarious throughout and nice to see Boyega not constantly freaking out and having anxiety attacks like in the Star Wars films. Ending was a bit off and unsatisfying to me, but a good movie overall.

Deadpool 2
This felt like a level above the first film even if it did some cliche movie things that it hammers other movies for. Still, it kept the personality, charm, and hilariously gratuitous kills in place from the first movie. The additional characters were OK overall. The kid was amazing, Domino was fun, and Cable was just OK to me. I was certainly laughing for the majority of the film and the extra scenes were once again some of the funniest jokes in the movie.

Annie Hall
I saw the Woody Allen doc is on its way out and wanted to see at least one movie of his before I watched it. Alvy (Woody) in the movie dates Annie (Diane Keaton) who's much younger than him but the movie doesn't throw out too many red flags itself...there's on part where his friend picks him up from jail and he's upset because he interrupted him with twin 16 year olds. I thought I heard it wrong before I ran it back. The movie is pretty funny, and Diane Keaton is great in it. One thing you don't run out of watching these movies are beautiful shots of NYC. It felt pretty experimental for a rom-com. The whole ending monologue about needing the eggs was great.

Steve Jobs
I was just doing homework and needed something in the background and what's better to listen to in the background than a Sorkin movie? I've seen this before and honestly I don't like it very much. Fassbender just doesn't look or sound like Steve Jobs to me, and it's not a movie about someone who I only slightly know or have heard of, this is a guy who's face I saw almost daily for years, too distracting. He did a decent job capturing the maniacal drive Jobs have, but meh.

Manhattan
Woody movie #2, red flags all over the place. The description of the movie is: Manhattan explores how the life of a middle aged television writer dating a teenager girl is further complicated when he falls in love with his best friends mistress. He's 42 and his girlfriend is 17, it's not like they ignore it. It is a very big plot point in the movie. His friends talk about how they don't think she's too young, it's just weird all around. I didn't think this was anywhere near as good as Annie Hall but it may have been just being really put off by the premise. It's not even like dude was hiding this stuff, he was getting it off in movies that are now hailed as classics. Just bizarre. Again though, and this probably stood out more because the movie is in black and white, but just a lot of striking shots of driving through the city. There's a fireworks scene early on which seemed odd to put in a black and white movie but everything else worked.

Still want to see at least one of the Mia Farrow movies and then see some that don't star him.

It was funny overall and entertaining enough. Beyond that it wasn't anything special relative to other Disney movies.

Origins is surprisingly high in your rankings. I remember thinking that movie was trash while watching it in the theater.

John Wick 1 - 3
We've been watching the John Wick series over the past week. I think the first two are my favorites because they are a little more streamlined and straight-forward and provided more fulfilling climaxes than 3 did with its squad shootout. Still, they all contain some pretty amazing choreographed action sequences throughout. Over the top gunplay and hand-to-hand and absolutely entertaining. The first movie had the best cast to me, but seeing Halle Berry in the third installment was great. I think the last time I saw her in anything was around Monsters Ball and X-Men.

I definitely understand the infatuation with the series with the dirth of action movies since the early 2010s, but not sure I would classify them as personal favorites of the genre. I pulled out Dredd and The Raid to re-watch and reassess. Not to mention it feels like a lot of the gun-play is drawing on the gunkata of Equilibrium which is an underrated film in my view. Overall good movies that provide a fun viewing experience for the action film lover.

The Purple Rose of Cairo: Woody movie #3, about a woman in the 30's who's obsessed with seeing a movie and sees it so many times a character comes out of the screen into the real world. I've never cut a shorter movie off. Get Out is 104 minutes and I think I gave it 45 minutes before I noped out of there. This movie is 82 minutes and I turned it off with 37 minutes left. Just wasn't doing anything for me.

Blue Jasmine: Woody movie #4, Cate Blanchett as a formerly rich woman whose husband loses their fortune and she basically can't come to terms with it and refuses to accept reality. Cate Blanchett is a beast, and this movie was great. Ranking Woody movies I've seen, I'd put it 2nd behind Annie Hall, in front of Manhattan and way in front of Purple Rose. Fun things in this one: Jasmine's at one point confronts her husband for cheating on her with a teenage au-pair. This guy Woody is a menace. I watched Allen v. Farrow so I'll be reading takes on that for a while now.

Man of Steel: Ramping up for the SnyderCut, decided to rewatch my most disliked movie ever for the 500th time. It makes me sad because Cavill is so good as Superman, and he deserved so much better than this. Even the theme, while not as good as the original Superman theme, does not get as much credit as it should, gives that same feeling like you can run through a brick wall when it hits. The thing that stood out to me in this run is I like Laurence Fishburne as Perry, he's funny. Zod sucked. "I WILL FIND HIM!" "WHERE DID YOU TRAIN? ON A FARM?" Just a clown, not even on Terence Stamp's level. Faora though was an absolute tank.

Batman vs. Superman Extended: Really good for 2 hours and then bleh. One of my favorite scenes in any of these movies is the Superman Day of the Dead rescue, and him coming down to help during the flood. They just really got across who Superman is in a way that I think Man of Steel failed at.

Well I know what I have to rewatch now. Equilibrium just has this "feel to it", mostly due to the action scenes.
