Watched “Us” tonight. Didn’t like it.
The whole premise was pretty dumb IMO.
The only other movie option for our time slot was Beach Bum.
And now I’m disappointed we didn’t choose that one.
Yes, that’s how bad I thought Us was.

I was disappointed that the film didn't develop much over the course of the runtime (a lot of it was the same thing over and over without much progression in the narrative), but I like the scaled back, stripped down version of a "superhero" movie at the same time. I didn't like how underused Bruce Willis was though, especially since we hadn't seen his character in nearly two decades.

I thought it took away from the mystique of the first 2 movies. Didn't really see a need to combine them at all. The one thing I didn't like about McAvoy's character in Glass compared to Split was....

Finally got around to watching Kong:Skull Island but wish I hadn't. I felt nothing for the characters & Kong was not scary just an oversized CGI videogame effect. The movie was just a rollercoaster ride of CGI effects with characters acting stupidly. The Island itself was was not mysterious enough. Overall just a disappointing movie that I'll never watch again.

We watched What We Do in the Shadows two weekends in a row. It's a 2014 mockumentary horror/comedy movie written, directed by, and starring Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Concords) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). It's one of those movies that the more you watch it, the more you see, and the funnier it gets.



There's a spinoff series that just started on FX and my wife had seen some commercials for and I remembered seeing the trailer back in the day. The series has had two episodes so far and it's great as well. This style of humor is right up our alley.

I know this movie is divisive but I really liked, and to me it only had one notable flaw.

Loved the story and the pacing, and I could watch McAvoy as The Horde for hours just talking. The action was good, but I came for the characters and I wasn't disappointed with what I saw. I guess both 'Unbreakable' and 'Split' both put me in a character-driven zone as they both move fairly slowly.

Don't take my advice though...I think I'm a little unique in how much I liked this film. I liked 'The Village' as well, which was another divisive film of his.

My one notable flaw from 'Glass'

Evil Dead 2. Was on Starz, have seen it dozens of times, but still enjoy Bruce. What always amazes me every time I watch it is how Sami Raimi made the camera so fluid, lots of great movement and tracking shots that give it a frantic pace.

Pet Sematery (2019)

30 years later for this remake - I rather enjoyed it. You take it for what it is. A subtle rearranging of the plot (because if you've seen the original it pretty much follows the script until a key moment). I'm not giving anything away, really. Lithgow was really good - he was a perfect fit for the role of Jud. The IMBD ratings have put it around a lower 6 - and that's fair. If you liked the first, then go ahead and see it and enjoy it for what it is - and then reminding yourself how old you're getting if you remember watching the original 30 years ago.

Hellboy 2. It wasn't as bad as it's rotten tomatoes rating. I can definitely see where one of the biggest complaints come from: over the top violence that doesn't move the story forward.

There is a documentary about this and what the film is based on. From everything I've seen the film is unnecessary and not done well - best bet is to stick with the documentary.

The Magnificent 7 (remake). Enjoyable and action filled. Might be the 3rd time seeing it. Dialogue could have been extended in various scenes.
