Bad Times at the El Royale. Solid 8/10 for me.
I know it bombed at the box office but I loved this movie.
I just watched it last nigh, it is very long. (2hours 20 minutes) but it keeps you on the edge of your seat! I would highly recommend it.

      Bohemian Rhapsody

Got this on BluRay...I would have liked to have caught it in the theater but life conspired against that.

Anyway, I'm a big Queen fan, and have read many books and watched many docs on the band's history, so I wasn't expecting much 'fresh' here but I was very pleasantly surprised with what was chosen to focus on, and the time span (formation of the band to Live Aid).

While not historically accurate in some minor heres and theres, with one significant inaccuracy that I'm still willing to overlook in the telling of the film (spoilered below)...it's a movie not a documentary....it's wonderfully done. It very much deserves the Oscars that it is up for (sound mixing, sound editing, best picture, best actor, chiefly), though I can't comment on the level of the competition there.

Each actor selected to play the band members were spot-on in capturing the essence of the real men, and their looks to a very large degree. Rami was sensational as Freddie...really there's no weak links in the cast for me.

The film was very well edited, paced, sounds freaking amazing, and overall well-presented.

Again, yes some things weren't completely correct most notably
      Spoiler

What's great about this film besides the music and performances is how inspiring it should be for just about anyone who sees it. Highly recommended.

Big fan of Running Scared. Jimmy Smits plays a decent villain. I put it up there with movies like "The Dream Team". Fun little 80's movies usually lost in the shuffle.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I have been watching a ton of movies lately.
My GF works weekends and I have lot of free time.
Anyway I watched all 3 of these this weekend.

          Mile 22
          5/10
Horrible movie with not much of a plot at all.
I really like Mark Walberg but this movie just wasn't very interesting to me at all.

          Robin Hood
          8/10
Really liked this one, wasn't expecting much going in but I am a huge Jamie Foxx fan so I gave it a shot. And like I said I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

          Bohemian Rhapsody
          4/10
This one bored me to tears.
Fell asleep 2 different times trying to watch it.
I love Queen's music but just couldn't get into this movie.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I don't know if I'd but Mile 22 in the "horrible" category. It's certainly not a blockbuster, but Wahlberg's smarminess carries it. The operative is pretty impressive from an action scene standpoint.

Watched "Moneyball" again to somewhat prep for the upcoming season. Jonah Hill really is quite a good dramatic actor. He really complimented Pitt's role well. I love the scene with Pitt and one of his scouts getting into it in the hallway. I've known some guys (pricks) like that and there was something cathartic about it. Love the recruitment seen with Chris Pratt as well. And the way they edited the segment about the streak was picture perfect. If you've put off seeing this movie, don't. It was also a bit humorous (and somewhat sad) to see the money figures they were throwing around for a team's complete budget in light of what's going on in present day free agency.

I saw this on Last Monday, best 3D performance since Avatar. I actually was disappointed that the movie ended. Can't wait to buy.

                Brick

Rian Johnson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt before Looper. JGL is a high-schooler investigating the death of an ex-girlfriend. Imagine taking a high-school setting and layering it in noir dialogue and direction. As tongue-in-cheek and corny as the premise sounds it actually works and delivers a fantastic and thrilling movie. JGL is wonderful as the gumshoe detective maneuvering his way through the seedy world of his high-school trying to prevent himself from becoming entwined.

Haven’t seen Brick since I bought it on dvd so that’s awhile ago but I loved that movie.

Moneyball is a classic, I watch it all the time. Favorite scene is when Brad is on the phone calling to make trades. Such a simple scene but performed so well by him and and Hill. That slow clutched fist was so great.

I used to integrate movie scenes with church services since we were multi-media. I forget why, but I used the scene where Pete was showing Billy the footage of the big catcher not realizing he hit the HR. It went over big.

We also loved Alita Scott. Also saw it in 3D and felt it was the best 3D movie we've seen in a while. The 3D was awesome, but if you want to see a great 3D movie, then watch Dredd.

That movie is amazing in 3D and for us only Avatar was better

I just saw it last night on Amazon Prime.

Was not a fan of Alita, the dialogue was too bad for me to like it but the action was great so its worth it to see it just for that.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I saw a double feature in theaters last night of Happy Death Day 2U and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. I was entertained by both, with the former finding a creative way to go about making the sequel though it was silly and stupid, and with the latter being a visual feast that got better as it went, capping off the trilogy with a strong ending. Both films had at least one familial moment that choked me up pretty hard. Since they are both sequels, I'd say it's important to see the first of both series' films beforehand (you should also see HTTYD 2, but it's not quite as important or doesn't have quite as many callbacks in that one).

And as normal, I went in avoiding all trailers and previews... and after seeing the trailers/previews for both afterward, I'm once again glad that I avoided them. Cinema is so much more pleasurable of an experience not knowing what you're going to get, even when you're already eager to see that particular film in itself.

Remake of The Bad News Bears. Although at one time I would've called it sacrilegious to remake a Walter Mattheau movie at one point, Billy Bob did a formidable job. The anti-PC makes it. Still get a kick out of BB when he gets the 2nd place trophy. Greg Kinnear plays a good role in the rival smart *** coach. Did a little where are they now research after the movie and was taken back a little to discover the actress who played his daughter died in a car wreck when she was about 20.
