Make sure you watch Manhunter before Red Dragon so you have a point of comparison. I felt Manhunter was a fantastic movie and Red Dragon was good....but Manhunter the far better film of the same story. William Peterson was fantastic. Much better than Edward Norton (whom I like as an actor).

Caught The Mule this morning. Enjoyable movie. The theater was packed at 10:30 am. I was surprised. But it was a hell of a movie.St. Louis Cardinals | Milwaukee Bucks | Los Angeles Rams

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Black Panther
Easily a top 5 movie in the Marvel universe and one of the best movies from this year. Michael B. Jordan is so damn fun to watch even when he's a villain. Perhaps especially when he's a villain. He just gave no ****s. "Yeah, I'ma need you to burn all that." The Villains podcast didn't do the movie justice IMO. It's hard to completely write off Killmonger's philosophy despite his methods being absolutely tyrannical and immoral. Anyway, visually this is probably my favorite Marvel film. Everything in this looked amazing - especially the Ancestral Plane and I loved the styles represented throughout.

Any of you guys join AMC's Stubbs A-List? I'm tempted but only have a older AMC Classic near me. The closest modern theater is a 30 min drive away.Comment

I thought Black Panther guy was shady as hell. Michael Jordan beat him fair and square, according the tribal rules or whatever. I didn't understand the point of fighting for leadership since obviously it didn't matter that Chadwick lost, he cheated and became superhuman again anyways.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Venom, I rented it expecting it to be terrible, but I like marvel movies so I wanted to give it a shot.
A bit of the movie was better than I thought, a lot of the movie is as bad as I expected. Tom Hardy saved this movie, lol. Overall I wouldn't say I'm a fan of the movie, but I don't regret renting it, and I wouldn't tell people not to watch it. I had some fun with it.
Best part was the spider man clip at the very end. Worst part (by far) was the terrible eminem song that starts when the credits roll. (It's also song that was in United states ads for the movie)Comment

It was still a fair fight since they showed they typically remove the power of the Black Panther for the ritual fight. Killmonger wasn't going to give that up those powers.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Saw Peter Jackson's They Shall Not Grow Old Monday night, and, wow, just wow. It's an impressive feat, and it comes off as massively sobering. War is ****ing hell.
We saw it in 3D, as that is all our theater had, but it was totally worth it. It really did help bring the footage alive. All of the work that went into this just immersed the viewer into the western front of the World War One, from the 3D to the colorization to fixing the speed of the film.
We stayed for the post credit message from Peter Jackson, and that was also worth it, if you get the chance to see this in theaters. He explained how the project came to be, all of the work they did, and how the came up with the narrative they did. It was clear that this was an amazing labor of love.

A few days ago, I saw Spidey and AquaMan back to back. Really liked both, but AquaMan was more fun. The underwater scenes felt and looked like Avatar. Can't go wrong with either flick.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
So last night I woke up in the middle of the night (that's bound to happen when you're on a couch) and I watched a modern flick with a very old school sensibility in the form of Hell or High Water (2016). The description of it as a neo-western was quite apt and I really enjoyed Jeff Bridge's performance. I really got a bit of a Wilford Brimley vibe to his performance especially early on in the flick. If this was made 25-30 years ago he would've made a good choice for the lead role and would add some grit to his persona. The relationship between his Marcus Hamilton character and his partner Alberto played by Gil Birmingham was excellent. I especially liked one scene where Alberto (who's Native American) talked about this crappy town they were in and talked of it being taken away from the people living there just like how the white man took away all that same land from his people.
Chris Pine and Ben Foster as the bank robbing brothers were allowed some depth to their story and they weren't made out to be cardboard baddies (for the most part) as their crimes had a solid reason for them. Pine does a great job with his tortured character who wants to do right by his ex and children but hates the fact that he's resorted to criminality.
The only thing I didn't like was the ending as I thought it was a little too open ended as you don't actually see the resolution but the movie ends in such a way that you know both Bridges and Pine are going to resolve their issue ASAP.
Great film and I liked how they translated classic western tropes into a modern day setting with the bank robberies, a woman who doesn't want to give up information, the town that doesn't like the law types encroaching on them etc etc.
I'd give this 4 out of 5 stars. The movie can be a little slow going.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
