It was good. Not my favorite DC movie. I actually liked Man Of Steel much more. I thought Affleck did a great job as Bruce Wayne and Batman. He will be a good Batman. The story was ok. I felt the plot was somewhat weak but overall an entertaining (if overly bloated) superhero flick.

Again nothing has really touched Nolan's Batman trilogy in the DC universe. I hope The Justice League can really be good. Superman needs to be universally accepted though in future movies. I am getting tired of the whole he is an alien who can destroy us at any moment take. Dude.....it's Superman. He fights for truth and justice and the American way. Enough already.
This is a good write-up, and I agree with a lot of your insights. I enjoyed the Ultimate Edition of BvsS as well, but I too liked Man of Steel more.

I liked a lot of things about BvsS, but I just felt the anti-Supes stuff was forced, especially in comparison to a story like the Injustice game which was remarkable.

I'm nearly 50 so Chris Reeves' first two Superman movies were great stuff to me, and I really was resistant to Man of Steel since Batman Returns sucked so hard. However, MoS was a huge surprise and I love it for the well-developed character of Zod, and the actor who played Supes/Clark sold me on it.

In BvsS:UE I too enjoyed Ben's Batman and Bruce Wayne, but I definitely feel (rightly so as it's intentional IMO) that Nolan's trilogy stands on it's own away from this as an alternate universe/timeline. I never really felt the tension between Bats and Supes was credibly established ENOUGH for a full on confrontation.

Having said that, the action scenes in the movie were all very good....cool Batmobile, and while I initially though Gal was going to be too skinny to pull off WW, she acquitted herself well and you don't have to be buff to be WW since she's of Zeus.

Anyway, good time. Looking forward to Justice League...but looking forward to Infinity War about 10 times as much.
    GO 'HAWKS!

Anybody recommend All The President's Men? (Looking at you SPTO, since it is an old movie )

I'm thinking of picking it up and watching it; I enjoy documentaries and non-fiction work - especially politics.

I'd recommend it for sure, everyone is in their prime and it's a well told story. It's not the most exciting movie in the world but if you like well acted films you owe it to yourself to see it. Jason Robards was EXCELLENT as Ben Bradlee.

Kubo and the Two Strings - this hit all the marks I want in an animated movie: superb animation, memorable art style, great voice work, and a story that works for the whole audience. I was captivated the entire time. First of all it is an absolutely gorgeous film. The whole art direction and style is wonderful and sticks with you. I loved the mythos and subtle world building that occurs over the course of the movie. The voice work is great, but Matthew McConaughey steals the show with a great performance.

If I were to make a comparison it would be to How To Train Your Dragon with a dash of Mulan. Superb film. Easily one of the best so far this year with all the mundane super hero offerings.

Thanks for the review. I saw a trailer for this awhile ago and it looked really interesting

The kid and I watched Assault On Arkham. A really fun DC animated flick about the Suicide Squad and of course The Dark Knight.

Next up is Gotham Knight then The Killing Joke.

These DC animated Batman movies are pretty awesome.

How are the Justice League and Superman ones? Any particular to recommend?

I haven't seen every one but I have mostly really enjoyed all the ones I have seen.

                    I highly recommend Flashpoint Paradox

All-Star Superman is good. War is good, Doom is good, Crisis on Two Earths is good. I haven't seen New Frontier yet. I haven't seen Superman: Unbound yet either

the Wonder Woman animated movie is great

I enjoyed Superman vs The Elite. Batman/SupermanL Apocalypse was alright. Batman/Superman: Public Enemies is pretty good. Superman/Shazam is decent

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

So I watched a Charles Bronson movie I hadn't seen before called 10 To Midnight (1983) with Bronson as a cop trying to take down a serial killer who ends up targeting his daughter. It's actually probably the most "sleazy" movie Bronson was in as it was a real mix of genres with the cop film mixed with the slasher element. The killer played by Gene Davis has an interesting M.O. in that he commits the murders in the nude as he literally knifes women in the gut.

The one thing that immediately jumped out to me that this character in look and possibly tone (I haven't seen American Psycho) seems to be an inspiration for Patrick Bateman.

Gene Davis in 10 to Midnight:

                      The Patrick Bateman character:

Anywho 10 To Midnight is pretty good especially if you like Bronson.

Also watched the Killing Joke and that was excellent as well. DC Animation is pretty damn good.

I have Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #1 and #2. How are those for any who have seen them?

                            Don't Breathe

No thread for this, so I figured I'd just post here.

This movie was intense! Very fitting title. Solid production, to boot. Fede Alvarez made very wise directorial decisions, especially regarding the sound stage and the massive use of low light. Just like the blind man, what you don't see is almost as important in this as what you do see, and you hear literally almost every sound. Lots of pleasant tracking shots early in the film as well.

To me, it was kind of like The Strangers meets Panic Room meets 10 Cloverfield Lane. I wouldn't qualify it as "scary," but there is plenty of tension throughout. The audience was totally sold on the concept and knew to respect what they were giving us. Not too much talking to the screen, and also not many relieving moments to let us let go and laugh it off either. There are jumpy moments, and if you want to call them jump scares go ahead. The only unnecessary one was the first one, but the rest were excellent. (EDIT: There was a second one that I wasn't in love with either actually, but honestly I couldn't think of executing it any better way)

It nearly overstayed its welcome, but the short run time kept every moment effective enough. I have only one or two questions leaving it that I'm sure I'll be able to find the answer to if I talk to the right people online, but otherwise I thought it was a terrific concept that was nailed spot-on. I'm glad the horror genre can give us this kind of film time to time, even though I technically probably file this under the thriller camp (but with horror elements).

I often don't rate films, but I want to give it about an 8/10. Maybe if I get more precise, I'd go 8.3/10 or so. There was a lot to appreciate about this film's production.

And Justice For All Looked back at this for some reason, was just in the mood for a throwback movie I guess. Man, was the music from start to finish just awful for this flick. The opening song just did not fit. The background music was like it was purchased from some discarded TV basement bin soundtrack. And the closing song was just too ridiculous for words.

I have forgotten how quickly the ending comes on you after Pacino delivers his famous "and you're out of order" litany on everyone. I mean it goes from this semi-iconic scene to this comedic ending to this **** song so quickly, you have to do a double take. It's too bad because it's a fine movie overall.
