I might have to check it out. I own the Serbian Film and thought it wasn't that bad. Wikipedia makes it seem worse than it really is.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Godzilla (2014) This had the makings of a good film but there were three things that killed it

      1) The lead was more wooden than my bedroom night stand table. I'm sorry, there was just no way I could emotionally invested in him at all. The relationship with his wife was also one dimensional as all hell. Oh yeah, we know they're true lovers forever ad evidenced by one scene of them making out WOOO! The actress' expression of grief and worry was also so laughable that I actually laughed. That's not a good sign. It also hurts the movie when the advertising made Bryan Cranston seem like a major character and he was only in it for a half hour. In short, he should've survived and been a major part of the story with Dr. Serizawa and Admiral Stenz. At least that would've helped to bolster the rather weak main character.

      2. Almost everything with the monsters was filmed at night. Yes there were some day time scenes but jeez...Could we not have one amazing fight/attack scene in daylight? (Actually to be fair, that scene on the Golden Gate Bridge was excellent) The movie is also called Godzilla but he was only clearly seen in the movie for EIGHT MINUTES! C'mon people! The old Toho Godzilla movies used him more than that!

      3. The over use of the military aspect. I guess this was to expected but one of the things that the best of the old Godzilla did was give the perspective from POV characters, the military AND the geopolitical situation. It wouldn't have hurt to have a few scenes actually involving the President or the UN.

That being said, there were things that made this movie at least worth the watch. The conflict and relationship between Dr. Serizawa and Admiral Stenz was well done. In fact, that dynamic was one of the things that kept me emotionally invested in the film. I generally liked the message of the movie and the revised origins but the design of the MUTOS looked way too mechanical IMO.

I will give great credit to the director for the scene transitions as you'd go from one point to another via a panning of the camera and such. That gave the movie great continuity and a sense of flow. I also liked the call back to the stereotypical "Kenny" as well.

All in all, a bit disappointing but at least it isn't a disaster like Emmerich's version. I give this 2 out of 4 stars. I look forward to seeing the Japanese version coming out in October.

Glad I took advantage of that offer last night. I got 20 movies for $20, today it would cost me $90 for these same movies. I won't watch all of them but I'd say it's a solid collection at $1/movie in HD. Most of these I haven't seen.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

So i'm a bit under the weather and i've watched quite a few movies over the last couple days. I'll give short thoughts on each. If anyone wants more of my thoughts just ask and i'll provide:

Spectre (2015): As a major fan of the main villain it's great to see him back though this movie felt a bit overlong and I really hate the whole "everything has to be interconnected" thinking these days in relation to his ties with Bond. That being said, this was one of the more prescient Bond movies in terms of theme what with the over arching surveillance plot. Absolutely LOVED the cold open which seemed done in one take (it was actually 3 different takes strung together) and the car chase in Rome.

I give this 3 out of 4 stars.

Zootopia (2016): What a fun and imaginative little film. I was immediately enamored and hooked on the Judy Hopps character and the relationship between her and Nick Wild. Jason Bateman does an amazing job with his voice acting in this film. The animation and look of the characters was the perfect blend of looking lifelike yet remaining "cartoony". Gotta love the stealth race relations theme that was the undercurrent for the plot. It was definitely something adults would pick up on but not so much for the little ones on the surface but subconsciously it'll seep into their minds. The Godfather analog character of Mr. Big totally cracked me up!

              4 out of 4 stars

TMNT: Out of the Shadows (2016)
: You know how they say "that was like a cartoon/comic book come to life"? Well, this was LITERALLY like that. It completely felt like the old '80s cartoon in tone and feel. I didn't like that Baxter Stockman was a complete joke but eh, it's ok. BeBop and Rocksteady were definitely lifted straight out of the TV show. The tone at times felt a little TOO broad but once it settled down it found a good rhythm. It isn't a good movie per se but it was vastly entertaining. It's definitely geared more for the kids that's for certain. I do love that the film makers basically realized they screwed up and went for more of the tone and feel that harkened back to the TMNT as most people think of the franchise. The actual turtles are still a bit too broad and "komedic" but it works.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Sorry for the back to back posts but I forgot to mention that I watched Captain America: Civil War as well. Boy was this a humdinger. The action scenes were well done especially the one at the airport. I liked that it took a non-powered villain to drive a wedge between the Avengers rather than a costumed villain.

So yeah, full marks for this one but I want to also add this:

THANK GAWD FOR MARVEL HAS SPIDEY RIGHTS MOVIE RIGHTS NOW!

Tom Holland was THE perfect expression of what Peter Parker/Spider-Man is supposed to be. I was going to be all "meh, another Spider-Man crap movie" but after watching his performance in this well, I will be checking out Spider-Man Homecoming.

Yea my copy just came yesterday. Now I have to figure out which movies I haven't watched yet. Or maybe just watch them all again. Haven't made up my mind.

So I'm watching all of phase 2 and then going to Civil War, even though I feel I have seen half of them. Started off with Iron Man 3. Thought it was another good Marvel movie. I liked Killian as the villain. Won't touch on The Mandarin because I never read any of the comics to know how he was supposed to be portrayed. Overall I'd say it wasn't the worst movie but it definitely wasn't up there with the original Iron Man, Cap Winter Soldier or Avengers. 3.5/5.

I will give great credit to the director for the scene transitions as you'd go from one point to another via a panning of the camera and such. That gave the movie great continuity and a sense of flow. I also liked the call back to the stereotypical "Kenny" as well.

The Mandarin at the time of his introduction was almost the antithesis of Stark. East vs. West. Mysticism vs. Technology. He was THE I.M. arch enemy in the earlier going. Really surprised they never worked in Titanium Man/Crimson Dynamo to date. But I agree about Killian. Molten Man-like.

Yea I knew of him, that he was the Iron Man's Joker. But that was it. And I know people didn't like the way he was portrayed in IM3. But I thought he was funny.
