    Now You See Me 2

It wasn't bad. I liked it a little more than the first one but its nothing ground breaking. Cool tricks and you can't go too wrong with this great cast. I did get annoyed by Lizzy Caplan's character which usually I'm a fan of hers.

If you liked the first one, then you won't be disappointed.

I've rewatched it about three times since seeing it in theaters, and I think I'm in agreement with you on her character. It's not all the time though; for instance, I'm fine with her hitting on Dave Franco's character, and think she's pretty funny in those scenes.

What I don't like (and it's not just her, it's everybody) are scenes where they are trying to get away with something and they look so obviously suspicious. Whether it was Woody Harrelson's character sneezing then doing that thing with his hat, or Lizzy Caplan's character like falling all over the place... it was just too much stuff that you see in G and PG films. I think they could have been more mature about these moments. Ocean's Twelve had the same issue when Julia Roberts' character was playing Julia Roberts.

        Blood Father.

Say what you want about Mel Gibson, but he's had quite the unique array of roles to play over his career. I for one hated seeing him go over the edge after what he had brought the world in Passion of the Christ and Apocolypto, so it was good to see him try to rebound with Get the Gringo, which I thought was a worthy effort. Blood Father doesn't quite live up to that. It has a decent enough cast and seems to set a good stage initially. However, this one appeared to get lost around the same time the characters were actually trying to get lost. There are some worthwhile scenes, but there are too many inferred holes to fill regarding past lives and relationships. Overall, it's worth a look if you have nothing much better to watch.

          Money Monster

This will fall into the "thriller" category, but it really didn't feel much like one. I didn't feel it to be very gripping or intense. Maybe it was the casting, maybe it was the cinematography, or maybe it was the ordeal of me not being too concerned about rich people possibly blowing up lol.

As far as the casting goes, it's not like they picked bad actors: namely George Clooney and Julia Roberts. The problem is their statuses as actors, and you felt like it was literally just them, so they feel very "protected" most of the time. Clooney did not pass off to me as someone like a Jim Cramer, because he feels more like his Up In the Air character as he does his Burn After Reading character. I think more could have done in his portrayal of a stock adviser TV host. Roberts was kind of just there for me. The man holding people hostage did his part okay, but I think it just kind of played into this whole thing that... yeah, this couldn't really ever happen, and if it did it wouldn't play out like this.

Not bad, but not good. Does not do anything to separate itself in terms of ambition. Even a movie like Man on a Ledge had more ambition than this one.

          The Blair Witch Project

Had a chance to see a pre-screening for Blair Witch, and only balked because I hadn't seen the original yet. I probably didn't get to watch it in the best setting though. It was on Syfy with six minute commercial breaks and censored swearing, while one eye was on grading tests as the other was on the film.

Sadly, I just don't think it holds the test of time anyway. Too many found footage films have come out since then, and any person who is looking to be freaked out won't get that because this goes way in the "less is more" camp, something that I appreciated but also didn't know how it was supposed to move me when I'm clearly watching this nearly two decades too late. I'm sure the sequel/reboot/whatever you call it is made to help modernize things for viewers now, and sadly won't do what the original did as a result. Higher budget and showing more is doing exactly what the original film totally wasn't about in the first place, but I really don't know because I have yet to see it... though I'd like to.

Other things that didn't help are all the spoofs that have come since then: the bit in Scary Movie, Steve Oedekerk's The Blair Thumb, and even my sister and her best friend filmed their little fan spoof that I got to act in when the original came out. My bad for not seeing it when I should have, but maybe I'll spend time with it and pretend like I haven't ever seen anything like it before with the Blu-ray, and see if I can change my opinion on what it's supposed to make us feel. I'd really like to pay respects to the "first of its kind" if at all possible.

I felt Man on a Ledge was a bit of an underrated movie. I had a feeling Money Monster would be either hit or miss what with the casting. So Clooney is supposed to be a Jim Cramer type? Yeah, that doesn't jibe at all unless he totally let himself go which doesn't seem to be the case by your description. I'll check this out at some point but it sounds like something I can put on the back burner for me once I get back to 2010s movies in my cycle again. Correct. He has the buzzer, sound effects and all. I don't want to call it mailed in, I would rather say "misdirected," but then this was Jodie Foster so I wonder if it was something that she really intended to hit off so he didn't seem too silly for his own good. For all intents and purposes, his character needs many serious moments, so I guess the way that he passes off his "television character" is something that is less truly him than it seems, if that makes sense.

I forgot to mention something that I really did enjoy that Foster did well, which was create a full real-time effect with the entire film. I don't think it ever broke stride throughout the film, which is something that not a lot of films are able to pull off. So it has that 24 thing going for it as well, something that I noticed about halfway through the film. Kind of cool effect, and something that did bring it up a notch.

But yes SPTO, I think you can wait. It's not going anywhere haha.

I was actually incredibly surprised by Money Monster. Don't know what it was - it didn't do anything all that amazing - but I was captivated almost the entire movie. I also let myself buy into the characters and didn't just watch Clooney/Roberts.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I think it is probably safe to assume that the majority of people today would walk away from seeing Blair Witch for the first time feeling pretty unimpressed.

I guess it is one of those things where you "just had to be there." At the time, if you had that suspension of disbelief even just a little bit it, just enough to allow yourself to be immersed in the "realness" you were watching, it was pretty terrifying. I was just a kid but I legit had nightmares that night. Movie scared the crap out of me, back then

My God, this movie is outstanding.
Granted, I love Hot Rod and Samberg is my type of humor.

That said, this movie was smart, quick, subtle and over the top all at once. The cameos were perfect and it was really treated like a full on "rockumentary"

I am so sad that it failed in the Box Office but hopefully this takes on a cult following that Hot Rod kind of did.

                      I highly recommend it.

I caught the very end of it, so that probably skews things a good bit, but I had to keep watching too. Didn't know anything about the story.

My brother-in-law is a huge movie buff and horror especially, and he forced us to watch this one night. Needless to say I stared at a wall most of the time. LOL

I hate jump scares, so therefore most scary movies. That movie was one long suspenseful moment. Torture for me. But that's kind of the beauty of it, no? Nothing really crazy ever happened but it kept you on the edge all movie.

The new one will definitely not have the same effect. Not in today's environment. It has to do something.

I felt like that movie was maybe the coolest first 45 minutes of a movie ever. Overall I think it is really great but yeah, kinda slows down a little.
