I watched it about a week ago and felt it was enjoyable. The kid did a great job acting. I'd give it a 7/10. Also Jon Bernthal is one of my favorite actors. He was amazing as the Punisher, and in The Accountant.

I also really like Aiden Gillen. He was in the TV show Project Blue Book. So it helps when you really like the actors going in.

I need a good action movie to watch. Like something rated R, maybe a counter terrorist thing, or revenge movie.

The acting was very solid. Just the story was hollow. It could have been more. Not bad...just kinda meh for me.

Check out Homefront with Jason Statham. Brutal revenge flick. I enjoyed that a lot.

          Lethal Weapon

Oh boy. My guy Shane Black got this one locked down for sure. Having been one of like two people to have seen and loved The Nice Guys I should have watched this through a lot sooner. I'm not even sure how much I had seen previously randomly channel surfing through TNT or TBS. Anyway, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are freaking superb and hit all the right notes. It's a pure joy watching that relationship development throughout the movie and when they're off the screen they're missed sorely. I still can't get over how your number two and most trust goon is named Joshua. Even if the guy is mental who the **** is gonna respect a Mr. Joshua? The brawl at the end felt weird and was a little confusing both in premise and trying to follow who is who, but the only real negative I have.

Yeah, I see your point. It was a bit shallow the more I think about it.

And thanks for the recommendation. Will probably watch it tonight.

I dig Shane Black's writing, but apparently he wanted it to be even darker. Think it flows better with the comedy.

I thought it was a good balance in the end, but that first scene with Mel in his trailer is crazy. I'm not sure where this comes from. Maybe the second movie and after, but to me the series has a dramedy reputation and what I watched was way more drama and tension. In a way it was somewhat refreshing. Still think that brawl at the end is a weird move, but cops gonna cop?

                  100% this

We watched it last night, and it was great. Emma Stone was brilliant in it. The story, pacing, atmosphere, supporting characters were all great.

                      Rurouni Kenshin: The Final

The fourth film in the Rurouni Kenshin franchise is now available on Netflix here in the U.S., and as always the action and choreography is top-notch. Impeccable. I'm telling you, if Kevin Feige isn't collaborating with these guys for his Star Wars movie, then he's doing his part irresponsibly. This is pinnacle performance in motion.

At the beginning of this film I was afraid the fighting was going to feel a little too clean and overproduced, but it ended up fitting right alongside what the previous three installments provided. The editing was slightly choppier (not during a fight, mind you) and the storytelling seemed to leave a lot on the floor for the future while intertwining with past events, but it just keeps me on edge for the fifth and last film.

Whenever it comes out, I really hope I can get a UHD boxset of all five movies.

                        Luca

While this isn't one of the finer Pixar efforts, it's certainly one of the more fun ones. It has surface level (EDIT: no pun intended) engagement that kind of any age can enjoy. After sweating out the first ten minutes or so, the rest kind of took over and I was on board.

I don't really think any of the film's conflicts held much weight or delivered in too fascinating of a way and this is perhaps where it didn't have the same kind of Pixar magic, but you kind of live with it and take what you can get once you grasp the kind of story being told. In thinking it over though, I do believe the film has a heavier undertone that I know the online community is probably already chatting about. I had some world-building questions that remained unresolved which initially bugged me, but ultimately I decided that if the answers were underwhelming or lackluster that it's probably left better off how they approached it.

It is a wonderfully vibrant film that lowly embraces Italian culture, but never goes all the way like Coco did with Mexican culture. Character designs are great and the small bit of the world that we see is well captured. It's one of those films that I'd like to see a 3D release for, for sure. The voice acting was also on point.

I'm upset that this is not in theaters though, so Disney can go **** themselves. I also wonder if there is a short that is associated with it at all because I'd like to check it out.

My family watched Luca the other night. I kind of felt myself bored with it which is okay since I'm an adult and It was more about the kids than me but after the story starts to develop a little it gets pretty good. There were a few moments with the cat that made me laugh a little.

Soul the same way. It starts slow but gets really good.

It's nice that they actually put the movie out for "free" for a change because they post it right in the kid's face and they think anything on the app is included. We agreed to Raya and the Last Dragon on a Friday night because the kids wanted to watch it and when I checked it was $30. That's cheaper than the movies and we have a nice projector and 135" screen so it's a good value overall but didn't expect it. It was too late to back out.

The plan is to try to wait it out on anything else in the future because eventually it will included with the subscription.

                              My rankings:

                              8) The Nun
                              7) Annabelle

                              4) Annabelle Comes Home
                              3) Annabelle: Creation
                              2) The Conjuring 2
                              1) The Conjuring

I'm going to re-watch The Conjuring 3 tonight though, and I'll need to watch La Llorona again... those may end up switching later.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I got through about 3/4ths of Quest For Fire (1981). It's set 80,000 years ago with some cavemen whose fire burns out, so they go on a perilous trek to find another fire (they don't know how to make it themselves). They encounter various other tribes of humans along the way.

The concept is great, but they intentionally weren't going for historical accuracy at all. The cavemen we follow are way too apelike for 80,000 years ago. In reality they'd have looked and behaved essentially like we do today. They barely even talk in this movie, they mostly make ape noises. Then at the beginning they get attacked by this band of what look like Australopitheci, which would have been impossible since they died out ages and ages before modern man. May as well have dinosaurs in it at this rate.

I'd love to see a really well-done drama about early modern man that attempts to stick to the scientific knowledge. We never really identify with anyone from prehistory and I think a movie or show that makes us do that would be great.

Anyway, I'd give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5.
