This had me laughing my *** off!

C'mon people it's a war movie. Let's not get crazy. I hate it when people try to make something out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Whoever said that? I said this film was made for 70mm IMAX. Never before has a feature-length film been so IMO. It's not just the screen, it's the sound too.

Here is how I rank the Nolan films from favorite to least favorite:

      1) Inception
      2) The Dark Knight Rises
      3) The Dark Knight
      4) Interstellar
      5) The Prestige
      6) Memento
      7) Dunkirk
      8) Batman Begins
      9) Insomnia
      10) Following

But as far as technical execution goes, Dunkirk sits right up there with The Prestige, if not above it. When it comes to delivering strong ambition and matching drama with epicness, Interstellar is Nolan's masterpiece to date. No one can go without seeing Memento at least twice in their life. Batman Begins helps strengthen everything you see in TDK & TDKR.

You see? This list has quite a bit and I think Dunkirk sits up there somewhere, but this is just with Nolan films. I do think it should be considered for BP but would not be opposed to it losing, though I think it's time Nolan did earn a Best Director nod.

Besides, if someone did say that Dunkirk is the greatest thing since sliced bread, that's their opinion. They have every right to think that if so... not to mention sliced bread is incredibly overrated.

No one here said that I was more replying to that mentality. It wasn't an attack on anyone's opinion. Sorry if it came across that way.

OK, good, I can now openly admit pretty much what you just said. My son and I watched this in the theater and it ended up being a movie we went to see. We discussed a little on the way home and we were done.

Re-watched Thor. Really enjoyed it this time around.

Also saw Wonder. Good story telling, even if it was watered down.

Just got back from Insidious 4 The Last key

Pretty good. I am a huge fan of the three previous films. This one was easily the weakest of the 4. But if you really like the other three you will enjoy this.

Saw Jumanji earlier, and really liked it. Had a nice callback to the original, and Karen Gillan is a stone cold fox.

I wasn't expecting much from the new Jumanji, but was pleasantly surprised after watching it. Really well done IMO.

Caught The Joneses last night. What an interesting theme/message the movie had going. Each character was flat, no development, which was essential to feeding the theme. David Duchovny never disappoints, Demi Moore is still so sultry hot, and we need to see more of Amber Heard. I'd give it a solid 2.5.

Molly's Game. Very good, but felt like it could have been 10-15 minutes shorter. Great acting performances.

Re-watched "Arrival" today...this one i enjoyed the first time but appreciated more on this second viewing. It really is extremely good in every sense and I have been on an Amy Adams kick lately.

Also tried to watch The Circle and the movie lost me almost immediately due to the clunky plot handling. I just couldn't buy what it was trying to sell as a story, despite being a fan of Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Personally, I found Dunkirk to be one of the most intense and stressful films I have ever seen. I can totally understand people not enjoying or preferring it. Anyone that has watched it and came away unmoved, though, should put their phones or laptops down while watching films. This film, in particular, would be near impossible to follow and become immersed if you didn't give it your full attention.

It doesn't hold your hand and let you know exactly what is going on.
This matches the mindset of most of the characters, who were also in the dark. at the same time, Tom Hardy's fight pilot was kind of the opposite, as he was focused on his mission and plane.

That all said, I just got in from seeing Darkest Hour, and it is a damn great companion piece to Dunkirk. It's a completely different film in just about every way, but Gary Oldman's performance alone is worth taking it in. It was kind of cool to see the chaos and desperation leading up to Dunkirk.

You aren’t the only one. Wife & I watched this and afterwards were like, “So what happened?” We googled it and it basically doesn’t know exactly what it wanted to be.

Cool concept, but tried to do everything and did nothing well.

I enjoy Stephen King's books; with that I have always thought IT was the most overrated of all. He has other books that deserve the promotion IT got instead of a 90s mini-series or Hulu special. So I agree with you whole heartedly. IT became a sensation because of promotion.
