I actually didn’t say the word “we” in my post anywhere. It’s actually a good movie. That’s not opinion, it’s fact. It is art so if YOU don’t like it, or think it’s only popular because it pandered, that’s a YOU thing. I enjoy Black Panther because it’s a good movie. If YOU don’t like the MCU direction and future movies than YOU are wasting your time promoting a negative YT channel that seemingly hates everything and thinks his opinion is right and WE would rather actually talk about the movies and not the “god there’s too many women and non-white stories social justice blah blah”

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I personally didn't find Black Panther to be a good movie. Too many holes in the writing and rushed CGI. I especially feel it shouldn't've gotten a Best Picture Oscar nomination, especially when there were two other CBM's that year that were far superior in my opinion (Infinity War and Into the Spider-Verse).

As for the female thing, we've kind of had the conversation in a thread about the new 007, but I'm for any choice if it comes off more as good writing/reasoning and less as pandering/pushing an agenda. A lot of movies doing it these days really feel like they're falling to the latter side. I personally didn't feel that way with something like The Force Awakens, Kill Bill, and Atomic Blonde, but I did feel it with something like The Last Jedi, Cars 3, and Batgirl. The thing is too, I don't even really look for this. It's funny in Endgame when apparently all the female heroes join up together, and all I'm thinking in my head is: "Why doesn't Captain Marvel just fly over them? Why does she need help?" I didn't even realize she was with all of them, because there was a large hole story-wise in the way that was a bit more important at the time.

Then you'll have movies like Searching and Tenet with people of color as the lead where their color will have absolutely no bearing on the story, their motives, others' perception of them, etc. whatsoever (unless the story is about that, such as Get Out). I like that, because then it's telling me they got the best actor for the part as it was written, and the story was compelling in and of itself for that character to matter the way that they did. When you shelter yourself though into saying "I will only work with white/black actors" or "I will only work with male/female leads," then you're putting something before story and character, and that's never a good sign.

I think producers are doing that a lot lately, and I think it's a combination of being obnoxious, blatant, and tiresome. When Oscar speeches are now nothing but a pedestal for cast and crew members to speak about their moral stance and not about their film, it makes me wonder if their film was even nominated based on its cinematic impact and not just its societal impact.

So I have to ask. You felt it with one story that the entire trilogy was about a female and another one called batGIRL?

Or are you acting like Rey’s, the most important character, was forced in the trilogy?

So you don't think Christopher Nolan or his studio is capable of saying "I'm going to make a movie with a Black lead" and simultaneously make a movie that has nothing to do with their being Black? Is that better than actually building the story around the actors?

I'm sorry but this a joke of a response.

You are upset original characters are being changed...then when you get called out about your racial/sexist remarks...you suddenly hide behind the free speech and "mute or skip" your thoughts.

            The irony here is incredible.

Stop your group think. These made up fictional characters are all supposed to be white males like they were pre-2012.

I can agree with Blzer on his CGI critique on Black Panther. To me the first action scene is a little unpolished, but the rest of the movie settled down enough to not be a hindrance to me. Nothing about the writing stands out to me so I'm not sure what holes he's referring to. I do agree Into The Spider Verse was the best super hero movie that year and one of the best since The Dark Knight.

He lost me with The Last Jedi and Batgirl, though.

And Award Winners have been bringing up politics and morals since the first award ceremony. Not to mention the abundance of movies that have been nominated for various things primarily for their social influence.

If we’re comparing 10 years of Marvel movies to a one (now two) off animated Spiderverese or an Oscar award director’s take on a three movie, self-contained, Batman series…I mean what are we doing?

The marvel movies are and should be held to a different standard. They’re not standalone. They’re not one offs. They’re legitimately years of planning.

What Batgirl movie are you guys talking about? I know one is supposedly coming (they announced the lead for it today) but I'm not aware of one otherwise.

I like the Leslie Grace pick. She's a great singer as well.

Every time I wanna get rid of HBO Max, good stuff just keeps getting added or announced.

Sorry, I mean the Batwoman TV series (that had Ruby Rose in Season 1).

And I should've been more careful when stating The Last Jedi. I actually wasn't talking about Rey, but rather the inclusivity factor that Rian Johnson threw in there for some of the other actors/characters.

I also don't believe that Nolan went out there searching for a black lead. Given that it literally had nothing to do with his character, I'd say he just found the best man for the job. I'd understand if there was a decision that Bruce Wayne had to be white or something, but unless he was playing an inversion-like theme that Tenet needed a black and white set of leads, I'm not buying that his search was for anything else other than talent, and he saw it in JDW.

Anyway, feel free to ignore the examples if you'd like. I still stand by my statements made surrounding them.

Confused at the point you're trying to make.

When I brought up Tenet and Searching, my point was that the leads were people of color (John David Washington, John Cho) but there was nary a single moment spoken of regarding their race in the entirety of the film. That they could have been white actors in their place as most movies of yore that have white leads too don't make a stink about them being white. The drive wasn't in its story or politics, and it was the best person for the job.

Tenet released right on the heels of the BLM movement after George Floyd and such. If the marketing started to say something like: "This September... HIS. LIFE. WILL. MATTER." then it's a decision made that would pay off after the fact I guess. There wasn't ever any rhyme or reason to the color of his skin being part of this larger inclusion factor (in a movie that could have easily featured a white actor).

Now, if you want to say that Nolan hates women... well then you have a pretty strong case there.

He's also actually in Tenet (he plays a restaurant host).
