The bad reviews are quite discouraging, but I would still watch this film. I have been following the cartoon series eversince. It would be an awesome experience to view in live action.

Re: Shyamalan Presents: Avatar Last Air Bender
Does he? His movies have only gotten worse and worse over time. I haven't seen this movie, but skipping Stewart Little he went from Great (Sixth Sense), to Good (Unbreakable), to Not Bad (signs), to Meh (The Village), to Really? (Lady in the Water), to Is this a ****ing joke? (The Happening), to ahahahhahahahahahhahaha *deep breath* ahahahahhahahahhaha.
I'm not quite sure I'd say his track record is that of a man who takes criticism and betters his efforts with it.
I loved The Sixth Sense, but he's gone totally downhill since then and is an absolute joke at this point. You hear his name and you know it's going to be a pile of junk. I mean, he went from borderline genius to getting worse reviews than the worst movie I've ever seen in my life... The Hot Chick... That's really, really, really low.you know what? I actually enjoyed Lady In the Water a lot, probably more than Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense. But i found The Happening to be one of the worst movies imaginable.
I just feel as if this movie had potential. If he does heed the criticism, it can truly become something good.Comment

I thought the Happening was okay. I liked Signs, Lady In The Water and Unbreakable also. Hated the Village. Loved the Sixth Sense. I still plan to see Airbender as I've been wanting to check it out for awhile.Comment

Re: Shyamalan Presents: Avatar Last Air Bender
The series on Nick is phenomenal. I'm not into anime but I was into this one.
I didn't think it would be possible to ruin such a good series. Just follow the same plot points. But it looks like M. Night found a way.
The truth is: with every preview I saw, I saw less that I liked. I started getting this feeling that the film was going to be bad. I saw the in-theater preview for it during Karate Kid and it was a horrible, horrible preview. The effects were terrible and the acting was even worse.
I'll be skipping this one. Too bad because it should have been at the very least a decent movie."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I'm starting to wonder how many more movies Shyamalan is going to be allowed to make. He started out so well and declined ever since.GT: Herkyalert

Re: Shyamalan Presents: Avatar Last Air Bender
It was either the Today show or their evening news show that said Paramount has spent 280 million on the film.
http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/06/25/...ast-airbender/
The budget was probably 130-150 million and the budget and advertising was probably 280 since it's been on every commercial break over the last 6 months.Comment

Man this movie is getting hammered everywhere and by everyone. Even by people that I know tend to love crappy movies.
The trailer looked phenomenal though... I might give it a shot when the DVD comes out.

Re: Shyamalan Presents: Avatar Last Air Bender
I took the family to see it yesterday.
Movies tickets 30 dollars.
Concessions 15 dollars.
Watching my3 y/o daughter call out the names of the actors during the film......Priceless.
It is true that this is one of the most poorly done jobs by this director. He made stuff up as he went, cut out way too much needed info and then proceeded to allow bad takes to be kept as final cut material. If this movie cost 150 million you sure couldn't tell what the money was spent on. This movie will make a nice red box or block buster express flick. Unfortunately I paid retail. Other than that it wasn't a bad movie. It just wasn't great.Comment

Re: Shyamalan Presents: Avatar Last Air Bender
I think the reason why this movie is getting so much hate is the fact that Shyamalan didn't stick to the canon of the shows and invented his own rules for the Avatar: TLA universe which turned many fans of the series off to the movie.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Re: Shyamalan Presents: Avatar Last Air Bender
Lets all put this in perspective, it wasn't going to be easy trying to cram 20 episodes of content into an hour and forty five minutes. With as much stuff as he left out, he touched more of all the bases.
The acting was probably the films weakest aspect. The characters were pretty flat and had poor deliveries, however Zuko and Uncle were excellent. The special effects i thought were fine. Did it merit $150 million, probably not, but it was fine to look at.
I'm not sure what most expected out of this film? A movie along the lines of Lord of the Rings? Cause that was never going to happen at all. But what Mr. Night did was try to comprise the story into something understandable and enjoyable; did he succeed at it? Not very much but his attempt was fine. I really felt like the movie had potential to be something more grand but failed to due some because of its time frame.
Is this the best movie know to man? Hell no but it certainly isn't as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be. I feel like with a push in the right direction the sequel(s) could be something along the lines of remember-able.Last edited by marshallfever; 07-04-2010, 05:35 PM.Comment

Re: Shyamalan Presents: Avatar Last Air Bender
I watched it, I didn't hate it. The acting was bad.. it was like a movie where Megan Fox and Kristen Stewart was inside of every character... The pacing was horrible.. usually about 20 seconds of action (which was all in slow motion, making it about 10 seconds), followed by 20 minutes of bad acting and emotionless talking. The CGI effects weren't too bad, and there were only a couple of times when I thought "that looked bad".
The girl that plays Princess Yue is freaking beautiful in this movie though and made the whole thing worth watching to me, lol.Comment
