Exactly.. no matter what people thought of the whole thing, seeing his daughter just breaking down would get to anyone..

Man, the things that people all gather around for the TV in my lifetime ----- the top 4 would be the Royal Wedding (Di and Charles), the MASH finale, 9-11 events, and Jackson's memorial..

I don't know about yall, but every funeral I've ever been to has had singing. Its not like they were performing Beat Itor Wanna Be Startin Somethin.
I think you misunderstood my post. Never said they weren't supposed to have singing or that it wasn't normal but to me it looked more like a video tribute than actual funeral.

That's what this was...a Memorial Service, not a funeral....

Funeral, Memorial Service....to me they're both kinda the same thing to me. But that's probably because i've been to way too many funerals to even notice the difference anymore.

When I say this, I wasn't trying to say it was like an MTV Video Tribute, wrong choice of words. But it seemed more like people were more interested in who was showing up and who would perform rather than the actual service itself. Sorry if I confused anyone earlier.

Yeah, but that's how it is.

I guess I don't totally "get" this type of service anyways...I understand the ones for friends/family, but none of us actually knew MJ. This was just so fans could feel better I guess, I dunno. I'm not that attached to any entertainers, so it's just kinda different in my eyes. I'm logical (and perhaps somewhat cold), so I move on after remembering that person and how they impacted my life.

That's true, but it's an unnecessary expense because the memorial didn't HAVE to occur at the Staples Center, in the heart of downtown.

I think if his funeral/burial is broadcast it could be, but this wasn't that highly advertised and a lot of people probably didn't really care. Most don't care about his music and just think he is a child molester.

That's just asinine. There are far more Michael Jackson fans than haters.

Regardless of whether it was advertised or not, it was on EVERY damn channel, plus streaming on the internet.

I think everyone who performed or spoke actually knew Michael Jackson with the exceptions being Jennifer Hudson and John Mayer, and I may even be wrong about them.

I don't think the people there valued the performers over remembering MJ. I think they only cared if the performers did MJ justice and if they sent him off right (which I felt they did).

Yea, Michael Jackson wasn't famous or anything before the charges in 1993, he was just some guy.

No matter where it would have been, thousands of people would have converged to that area.
