LMFAO @ Elvis being the first to open up doors for Black Entertainers. I have heard it all now.
So prove how MJ didn't make Magic a better PG since you know for sure he didn't.Not to sound like a smart *** either but was MJ in the gym with him pushing him harder, rebounding for him pushing him in defensive slides. I doubt it. You can get as much positive reinforcement as you want but that will only take you so far.#RespectTheCulture -

Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
Yeah...I liked his music and was a fan of him as an artist. It sucks he died too soon, but I'm not gonna devote my entire 2+ weeks to every single bit of MJ coverage like it seems hundreds of thousands have been...I don't think people are reaching out to celebrities for answers. It could simply be a "damn, this guy I remember seeing forever is dead...I'm getting old" or "I really enjoyed so and so's work, and it sucks they'll never get to produce anything again."
I don't see anything strange about people mourning a celeb's passing. I feel bad when anyone dies really. I recall attending the wake of a co-worker who's husband had died. I wasn't close with her at all, but it was still sad to be there. I've attended funerals of family members I never really knew, and still felt sad. I've been a fan of Michael Jackson all my life (I'm 27). Am I supposed to feel nothing for him just because I didn't know him personally?
I'm not saying you're wrong for feeling that way, cause there are some celebs who have passed and my only reaction was "damn, thats messed up." I either wasn't fans of their work or unfamiliar with it altogether though.
I personally cannot imagine a artist/celeb who I'd fly out to LA to see their memorial, or just "hang out in the streets" to remember them...I'm just different I guess.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

No but when you make a $15 million dollar settlement payment to the family, say in interviews that you have taken naps with underage boys and will continue to it, something is not right. Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
There was no black "style" of Rock n' Roll, but Elvis was strongly accused of stealing songs from black artists back in the day. A few of his early songs were slightly altered versions of black artists' iterations.
From the man himself - “The coloured folks have been singing it and playing it just like I’m doing it now, for more years than I know. Nobody paid it no mind until I goosed it up. I got it from them.”Comment

Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
Why does everyone use this example?
OJ was found liable in civil court. He had a murder case. It's not related to MJ at all.
How many bad guys have been put away? Using one example of a guy that got away with it the first time (the harsher time) to say that's why you know that MJ was guilty is silly."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
Reports surfacing that Michael's infamous glove was worn to hide early stages of vitiligo - the disease that caused the depigmentation of his skin.
Guess Michael didn't change his color to be white. But, people will believe otherwise, I'm sure."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
It's shady, I agree. We never saw those patches on his face. Though, I can't say for sure I remember how Michael turned white. He just was or maybe it was so gradual you couldn't notice without looking at old video?
At worse, I think he could have quickened the pace with surgery to avoid looking patchy on the face. I wouldn't be surprised."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
Chuck Berry is credited with creating Rock n Roll, and that was like in the late 40s-early 50s. Rock n Roll was created by black artists, so how can there be a "black" style of rock?
Yeah, I admit I shed some tears watching the memorial (when his brother Marlon and his daughter spoke), but I never went to any public gathering here in Chicago, I'm not going to the Gary memorial tomorrow (which is like 10 min away), and I never bothered to register for the lottery to win tickets to LA. I didn't watch a lot of news coverage either, except on the day he died.Yeah...I liked his music and was a fan of him as an artist. It sucks he died too soon, but I'm not gonna devote my entire 2+ weeks to every single bit of MJ coverage like it seems hundreds of thousands have been...

I preferred to remember him through his music and by watching some of his videos (even old Jackson 5 archives on Youtube).
I just feel he was a very insecure dude. I don't think he wanted to be white, but imagine being the most popular person in the world, then all of a sudden, you get vitiligo and suffer serious burns in a Pepsi commercial accident?
Also, imagine growing up as a 5-10 year old and doing shows at clubs with strippers? Imagine your older brothers and dad having sex with groupies with you in the room and just an adolescent. Imagine people telling you they miss the little Michael once you've started going through puberty.
His mom said in a 1980 interview that he became more shy as he got older, and those are reasons why.Last edited by Po Pimp; 07-09-2009, 03:02 PM.Comment

Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
Well, he did technically change his skin to be white, it was just in response to the disease. I've seen pictures of him post Thriller, but before Bad, where he clearly has a lot of makeup one his face. Whether that was to cover-up the effects of a disease or just to look good in photographs is unknown to me. I do believe he had the disease though.
Bill Haley and his Comets are credited with having the first Rock & Roll song, "Rock Around the Clock." Berry popularised the 50's and more modern rock sound as well as how the electric guitar would be implemented in rock going forward.Last edited by Misfit; 07-09-2009, 03:20 PM.Comment
