LOL. I love Robert Randolph. He does some great MJ covers.

While Kanye is an enormous douche, in 1980s-1990s sales numbers, he would probably have 3 diamond albums.

Granted, he's not and will never be Jackson, but for all his arrogance he produces popular music at an insane rate and doesn't appear to be dropping off any time soon.

Since he allegedly writes, performs, and produces almost all of his music, I'm not sure labeling him the biggest person in music since MJ would be out of the question. He'd probably get my vote.

The allegedly part should be bolded in terms of Kanye writing his own music. Consequences, Rhymefest, and Big Sean have all been linked to ghostwriting for him. Kanye still gets my respect as an artist though.

He may be a tool but I for the most part enjoy everything he's done outside of 808's. The man has quite the discography in terms of his own stuff and other records he's produced.

808s has actually grown on me a lot. I really like it at this point (aside from Heartless due to way overplaying).

That's why I included the allegedly. Outside of Eminem, Nas, and the Wu, I wouldn't put outsourcing lyrics past anyone.

BTW, what songs of Kanye have been ghostwritten? I'm not saying they haven't, but I never noticed a huge jump in quality like Cash Money went through in the period Gillie was writing for them.

            I don't like Kanye's music anymore...

College Dropout was dope as hell, but I didn't like Late Registration and Graduation ver much...

Cebby an 808's guy? I would have never imagined

The man is a living icon whether we like it or not.

Besides his work, you look at the impact he's had in terms of fashion. His shoes... man people are out there doing all sorts of outrageous things to make sure they get a pair of Air Yeezy's.

Then the way he dresses [the slim jeans and shades and everything else he wears] also has had a crazy impact on today.

I dunno if there's one specific pop icon but he's definitely got his name up there. So him saying that I can't knock it as being untrue, just doucheish.

The rumors are "Jesus Walks" was written by Rhymefest, 808's was a collab between Consequences, and LR was also "inspired" by Consequences.. and then his last album before 808's was supposedly partly written by Big Sean.

Edit: Looking at Wiki pages, it does indeed seem like he's had a lot of input from others in terms of who has written tracks..

              Here's Graduation:

Eh, I'm actually a huge fan of well produced catchy music. After Nas' last album and the last Wu album, I've accepted that Fishscale is going to be the only great album by my favorite 90s artists in 2000s. The "underground" (less popular) albums I've downloaded were incredibly disappointing (I'm looking at you Kings of Leon).

My favorite albums of 2008 are all poppy albums (808s, Fearless, and Hootie's album). 808's hate, much like Lady Gaga's seems to come from people who are expecting something transcendent from music. As a change of pace, 808 is very solid. It's not Illmatic, 36 Chambers, or Thriller (to stay relevant to the topic), but for what it is, it's definitely worthwhile.

Jesus Walks makes sense because there's one part (I believe at the end of the last verse) that only a superior MC could pull off. Graduation sucked aside from the production anyway.

Some of that **** is good. I always thought it was gay and all, but one day I listened to some of it and now like some of the songs. I do only have 3 Taylor Swift songs on my iPod, though.

And I really liked 808s and Darius Rucker's album. I guess me and Cebby have similar music tastes.

It's a classic album; aside from the second and second to last song, they're all bangers. It's about as deep as a creek in August, but if you can't enjoy half the songs on the album, you're a bigger ***** than I am.

                        You trippin'.
I'm not sure what you mean. If it's the "underground" part, I'm saying that from a 2008 "download any album ever made within 3 clicks perspective" they were off the radar to most people (prior to the singles blowing up the last few months). If it's the music, it was fairly "eh". Definitely listenable, but not at all what I was expecting from the hype.

Just a tongue-in-cheek comment at the notion of Kings of Leon being incredibly disappointing.

Kanye never made that quote. The quote was taken from a satire website.

At first, I wanted to feel bad that many news outlets are reporting that quote as fact and people all over are hating on Kanye right now on the internet.

But then I thought about it and realized it's freaking Kanye West. He did this to himself by having a bloated ego so why would anyone not believe the statements to be true?

Anyway, it's a hoax. He never said that.
