I would say the Bad/Dangerous era. Thriller was his best album no doubt. But I think as a performer he was at the height of his game. He could still do everything from his past, and added some "flava" to his game.

I think the by the HIStory album, all his plastic surgery had taken its toll on him. Stories of his prosthetic nose falling off, not being able to sing like he used to, etc...

But then I thought about it and realized it's freaking Kanye West. He did this to himself by having a bloated ego so why would anyone not believe the statements to be true?

Anyway, it's a hoax. He never said that.
Yeah, it's a testament to his ******* nature for so many to just believe it was yet another moronic quote by a moronic guy. My apologies to you guys here, but none whatsoever towards him.

Performance wise, u may be right. As a singer, I think he was at his best during his late teens up until Thriller.

As far as his best album, I think its up in the air between Thriller and Off the Wall.

The only rappers I consider icons are 2pac, Run DMC, and maybe Jay-Z

At least give reasons as to why you don't think Kanye is an icon.

Kanye could be perceived as an "Icon" in America amongst the youth. But I would doubt that he holds iconic status worldwide and with people over the age of 35. The guy has put what, 3 albums out? Lets wait another 15 years before we even consider to give him that title.

Yeah I agree with you. He's probably not really that relevant with people over 28 generally speaking. He's definitely hitting the teens-26 range.

However off-topic even more but who has had more of an impact on pop culture, Ye or Jay-Z?

                            You guys are crazy.

Eminem is easily the closest thing to an icon that rap has.

KRS-One? He's definitely not in the top 50 and probably not top 100.

However off-topic even more but who has had more of an impact on pop culture, Ye or Jay-Z?
                            Kanye easily

It's really not close. He has almost single handedly reversed decades of terrible fashion trends amongst the youth. I can't think of anything Jay has really done on a pop culture level aside from convince millions of ugos that they can bang Beyonce.

I actually don't mind that album either.

Longevity would be the main reason. Also, he's not as beloved as he could be because of his attitude. If he were more humble, coupled with his great music, he would have way more fans.

I gotta disagree. No one right now is following any trends set by KRS-One. Kids nowadays don't know who he is, let alone can name one song by BDP. Also, whats to separate KRS from a Rakim or Kane? If he is an icon, then they all are, and I don't believe they are. Icon is a title u can't just give to anyone. Jay-Z is an icon just off the fact that he's worth like half a billion dollars. As a rap artist, that's unprecedented
