Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
If you like music, you listen to Michael Jackson every day. Everything on the radio today - EVERYTHING - is influenced by Michael Jackson in some way.
When you listen to the Thriller album, or Off The Wall before it, there is nothing on those albums like anything before. Nothing. For the next several years, bands of all genres - country to heavy metal - copy his rhythms and beats.
Michael Jackson was a modern day version of Amadeus Mozart. He, too, was a strange and mythical person, but his music was not like anything heard before at the time. Composers had trouble understanding the way he thought, and what he created.

Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
I've got to say, I'm a little confused and surprised by the amount of love the guy gets.
I know he's a huge pop star - but he's also an oft accused child molester. If it weren't for the being famous thing, he'd just be another piece of trash to everyone.
I don't know how I feel about the guy myself.
RIP Michael Jackson.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

I feel you, man... I wasn't at the point of tears, but it was definitely like a piece of your childhood has been taken away. I can't listen to any of the Thriller or Off the Wall albums without remembering my childhood. I was definitely misty eyed hearing the news.Comment

Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
I guess this is probably the biggest death of my generation. I can remember as a child Michael Jackson being the biggest thing in the world. Every video of his was premiered in prime time and my whole family would gather in front of the tube and watch it. None of my family of four really went out of their way to listen to his music, but everything he did was just such a big deal. MTV would dedicated days to just running his videos over and over. It's a shame what followed with his legal problems, everything just came to a sudden stop. He bounced back briefly with "Scream" but it was never the same again. I am in shock.Comment

Yeah I'm watching the CNN thing now. Larry King was carrying it and kicked it over to Anderson. They're going non-stop MJ. I still can't believe it though. You think a Michael Jackson is going to live forever. But you know that isn't true.Comment
