Glad to see Opeth is getting some love, probably my favorite band these days. Incredible stuff, and an epic live show. Blackwater Park is probably my favorite album of this decade.

Honorable mention to 311, Pink Floyd, and LCD Soundsystem. Also, not putting them here yet, but I've also started listening to Massive Attack recently, like what I hear.

Great list! I've had an unhealthy addiction to Dillinger's Ep with the covers and Retrofied. Up until then, I mostly listened to their old stuff. Played with those dudes once in Jersey. Sick, sick band live.

Opeth/Btbam/Protest the Hero fans should really check out Cynic, if they haven't already. And let me say, Opeth wins the award for #1 band people wished they knew about, even if they don't know it yet. Reminds me of the Mars Volta. When I first heard them, I was like "how is this not the most popular thing ever?"

Both bands are really catching on though.

Thanks. Yeah, I heard a couple Mars Volta tracks in college, but not enough to buy an album. Then a couple of my friends who are really into punk recommended them... wow. Love to see them live.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check out Cynic. It was just Opeth for a while, but I've been slowly expanding my prog-metal collection; just picked up Mastodon's Blood Mountain, liking it so far.

I'm gonna add a couple that I failed to mention before.

NOFX - Come on, it's where I got my screen name on here.
Beck - Odelay thankfully got me out of my short-lived rap phase in middle school. Such a wide variety of sounds throughout the years. Give Sea Change a listen. I wish I could lay my feelings out like he does on that album.
White Stripes - How could I have forgotten this band? Great. Just great.
Rancid - Life Won't Wait is one of the most underrated albums of all time. I'm interested to see what their upcoming album is going to sound like...
Led Zeppelin - This band arguably has 3 members in the top 5 all-time for singers (Robert Plant), guitarists (Jimmy Page), and drummers (John Bonham). And John Paul Jones wasn't too shabby on bass either.
Bad Religion - The greatest punk band of all time?
Defiance, Ohio - Great modern-day protest music. And a very original sound. It's what I wish Aganist Me! would have stayed.
Bob Dylan - Even though he's not really a band, you can't argue with this. Kind of a homer pick since he was born in Duluth, but damn can he write a song.

The first time I heard The Sounds was about 5 years ago when they opened up for The Strokes. I had never heard of them until that concert and they were pretty good. I then downloaded some of their songs and they flowed in with that whole rock scenes in the early 00's.

Its cool, sort of reminds me of a song that could be in PGR2. That game has such an incredible soundtrack. Heard so many artist whom i would never listen to. This song has a strong PGR 2 vibe to me

Alter Bridge - Deep songs, singer has amazing voice and incredible song writing.
Shinedown - Brings heavy tracks and slower tracks, great choruses.
Green Day - Love the high energy punk!
Black Stone Cherry - Heavy, great guitar, singer has great voice.
Three Days Grace - Great singer, great guitar riffs.
