My favorite right now is Rise Against.

All-time is probably Springsteen or GNR.

        Atlanta Braves
        - Auburn Tigers - Nashville Predators

Re: What are your favorite bands?

There are numerous bands I like, even love, but I'll keep it to three:

Danzig - I have enjoyed Glenn Danzig in all of his incarnations, but the band that bares his name is the one I enjoy most. Danzig II is my all-time favorite album. A tight quartet was behind this magnificent combination of hard rock, blues, and metal. For most, Danzig starts and ends with frontman Glenn Danzig and his vocals, an almost perfect marriage of Elvis and Jim Morrison. I enjoy the croons but some find them off-putting. Danzig has released over a dozen records spanning several genres (but always maintaining a metallic base), there have been missteps along the way but there is always a gem or two on each and every album.

Edguy - German power metal, made famours by Iron Maiden's New Wave of British Heavy Metal, with a distinct 80's hard rock flare. Edguy is a group I enjoy mostly because the music makes me feel good. It's usually up-tempo and not nearly as bleak as most metal acts today. The screaching falsetto of frontman Tobias Sammett is the band's trademark, but the melodies are what drive the group. I've enjoyed every one of their albums beyond their debut "Kingdom of Madness," but my favorite is probably 2001's "Mandrake" as it captures everything that embodies Edguy. Incidentally, ever since that album Edguy has adopted a progressively more and more hard rock style but they still kick all kinds of ***.

Opeth - Swedish progressive death metal, is apparently how Opeth is described these days. The most important band in the world today, and most people have never heard anything from this five-piece for which no genre clearly defines. Just listen to the song "Heir Apparent" then jump to "Burden." One is brutal death metal, the other 70's arena rock, and both are seperated by just one track on the 2008 album "Watershed" LP. The track seperating the two, "The Lotus Eater," is probably the quintessential Opeth track as it utilizes off-timing, death metal growls, melodic crooning, and flawless execution. Mikael Akerfeldt is metal's resident genius and so far everything he touches is gold. It also doesn't hurt that they are perhaps the best live band I've ever seen from an executions standpoint, so much so that their live recordings are almost boring because the band is able to so flawlessly execute each song note for note. It's hard to even pick a best album. Some like to cite "My Arms Your Hearse" as it is the first album in their catalogue to establish their progressive sound while a large group of fans adore "Blackwater Park," the band's break through effort from 2001. Akerfeldt has said in the past that he considers "Damnation" to be the group's best, an album absent of all metallic influences that shares more in common with Pink Floyd than Immortal. My personal favorite is probably the concept album "Still Life," but you really can't go wrong with this band.

Re: What are your favorite bands?

I'm a big fan of classic rock even though I was not even close to being born when all of it was created. Right now my favorite bands would go something like this:

Phish - Introduced me to the wild world of improvisational music. Sure, plenty of bands jammed prior to their formation, but this was my first love. Influences all over the map and their live shows demonstrate that. Seen them 25 times live and will be tacking on another 4 shows in a month. Can't wait!

Led Zepplin - Gods of rock.

Pink Floyd - Awesome composers, super spacy at times which I love. Been playing Animals a lot lately.

Beatles - Game changers. Abbey Road is still a top 5 album for me.

moe. - Another "jamband" on the list. Love their older, lengthy compositions. Always put me in a good mood.

Allman Bros - Masters of that southern rock sound. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is still epic to me.

Grateful Dead (70s era) - Great songwriters and face melting jam artists. I would say the most "soulful" jam oriented band ever. I lose interest once we reach the 80s and 90s for them.

Plenty more bands that I love, but I could be sitting here all day writing about that.

Dont get lost. It will be okay. The world will go on. How is it possible to get lost without music?

Seriously tho, i said i dont listen to much, not i dont listen to music. Meaning, i dont care about stuff others do. I dont check out the newest music and i dont have the standards others do. The only reason i posted in the thread was to put in pepper and see how many people listen to them. Other than them, theres nothing i listen to consistantly enough to care about.

Pepper? Haven't heard of them personally, what genre would you classify them in? Music to me at least, is the soundtrack to life. No matter what mood I'm in, there's music for it, and it makes everything better. It helps relax, get excited, horny, you name it, music is the ultimate remedy for me.

Old school Kiss is classic and always will be. They are legendary, the original lineup, and not just for their music.

I listened to Kiss all the way through Psyco Circus, but after that I realized that they will never be anything close to what they once were. That cd was one of their worst for me personally, which really sucked being that is was the "Reunion" cd. Creatures Of The Night was the last truely great cd. Revenge was good, but featured alot of corny tracks as well, thanks to Mr. Stanley. Other than those two discs, the 80's going forward was a bust musically.

I'm with you on opeth. I like Damnation best. The solo for Windowpane is insane. One of the most versitile bands I've ever heard.

And I just checked out danzig. I'm liking what I hear so far. That singer is awesome and some pretty sweet guitar work too.
