    Funny People

Initial returns on RT are favorable. I'll be watching Friday even though I never really thought it would be that great..

Man, it seems as if it has taken forever for this movie to get out. I remember hearing about it at the end of last summer or something. I am pretty excited to go see it. I'm sure I'll be laughing throughout...these movies hardly seem to dissapoint.

Well, after watching that trailer, I guess I don't need to see the movie - I just watched it...

That is why I avoid trailers and scenes that follow interviews on the late night talk shows.

The movie is nearly 3 hrs long. So maybe give it a chance.

That's the one thing that scares me about this, (and the fact I don't know what the heck it's about) comedies RARELY if ever do well over 2 hrs but it's been done before with IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD but that was in the early '60s.

So what exactly is this movie about?

You know this movie is a LOT of Stand-up by many comedians right? Thats in addition to the main story (Sandler has a incurable disease and hires Rogan as an assistant/wanting to be a friend because he's really an a** and has none).

              Taken from IMDb.com

George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is a very successful yet self-involved stand-up comedian who learns that he has an incurable blood disorder and is given less than a year to live. Ira Wright (Weiner is his actual last name) (Seth Rogen) is a struggling up-and-coming stand-up comedian who works at a deli and has yet to figure out his onstage persona. One thing these different men have in common is that neither of them have any close friends. One night, George takes notice of Ira when they perform at the same club and he hires him to be his semi-personal assistant and opening act at his performances. George and Ira form a close bond as George teaches Ira how to win the crowd and Ira helps the dying George find closure in his legacy. However, when George learns that his disease has gone into remission and an old flame (Leslie Mann) reenters his life, his recent near death experience inspires him to reevaluate what is important to him and what truly gives meaning to his life. Interesting and sounds like it has some heart to it without being very noticable which is what Judd Apatow is great at.

90 % on RT right now. It likely won't stay that high, but it won't drop below 70% I wouldn't think which is not bad at all.

2 hours and 20 minutes is way too long. I love The 40 Year Old Virgin but even that one was too long. It's as if Apatow just doesn't know how to properly cut a film. At least they're all pretty good, but still...

I'll probably see this one, unless the reviews are overwhelmingly negative.

It's really hard to find movies that run under 2 hours nowadays. Unless you are watching some children films or something completely stupid like The Fast and Furious or something along those lines, then I would expect to devote 2-3 hours in the theater each time you go. As long as the movies don't drag alongthen I am usually still interested...especially at the Move Tavern where another thirty minutes equals another beer before I depart.

It's a trick, like Pan's Labyrinth. It'll be funny for a total of 10 minutes and the rest will be sap.

Really looking foward to this, mostly because it is going to be a comedy that actually has interesting dramatic elements to it.
