    This is the winner!

The music "game" is all about giving the people what they want.

If it wasn't, Nickleback wouldn't have a job either.

Nobody is killing hip hop for me because I choose who to listen to and who to ignore. But the overall top-40 hip hop section is strugg-a-ling imo.

You also make too much sense for a thread like this.

I agree with this somewhat. I still think there's a pay-for-play racket going on cloaked as "advertising."

Hip hop got taken over by the corporation. Record labels don't set trends, they follow fads, and the competition responds by paying for spins or forcing an artist that has been signed for years to make a status quo record.

Sorry, Rap has been dead since the mid 90's. If it weren't for Eminem, OutKast, The Roots, and a few other greats, it would be a complete joke.

I hate that all the living legend rappers have cosigns Lil Wayne like he deserves to be mentioned with them someday. Weezy isn't in the same class as a Soulja Boy, but he has no content. His age is no excuse either. I can name dozens of rappers with more mature subject matter (past and present) at that same age or younger (he is 26 btw).

Have you heard about Little Brother, Murs, J Dilla, Cunninlynguists, Boot Camp Clik, etc?

Rap is not close to being dead when you have artists like these (all from different regions)... yes, you need to dig in the dirt, but you'll find that hip-hop has been buried.... ALIVE... woooo ooooo

I agree. Most of the hip hop I listen will never get played on the radio. There is some quality music out there. We just have to look for it and stop being spoon fed by MTV and BET (which is straight garbage these days).

                          Re: Rappers That's Killing Hip-Hop

I read from a old school hip hop guy in a some magazine, he said digging for nice music is part of Hip-Hop. I'm finding that to be true. I REALLY dug deep and found artists/groups like: Dead Prez, Little Brother, Masta Ace, Murs, J Dilla, The Roots etc. I agree with what alotta ppl in here were saying.

I know a lot of them artists/groups I said are signed to majors. But they still underground in my eyes. They give us real music. Majority of these labels almost try to force they artists to make the type of music they wanna hear. Like Saigon said, his label wanted him to make songs with Pretty Ricky. All I'm saying is if we want that REAL Hip-Hop, we're gonna have to dig for it. Cause more than likely its not gonna get any love from those channels, radio stations, etc.

When does Wale's album drop, August or September? Him and Quest are under the radar cats I'm trying to keep up with now.

I believe it's September. Hip hop is far from dead. It's just harder to find good stuff... well actually it's not. With the internet, myspace and blogs there is absolutely no reason to not be listening to great hip hop.

I don't understand why people make these threads...

Let's run down the usual suspects:

                                Soulja Boy
                                Plies
                                Lil Wayne
                                New Boyz
                                Lil' Flip
                                etc.

All these threads do is complain about the same artists that are "killing hip hop". Whatever, if ya don't like em, don't listen to em. Their are enough forms of media in this day and age to completely block at any medium that does not appeal to your taste.

I guess I don't hold the actually meaning of hip hop in such high regard as some other people. I feel like I'm in to a broad spectrum of hip hop and can appreaciate all walks of life. My iPod is proof of that, whether it's Ghostface Killa down to Soulja Boy, back up to Little Brother and more.

Take the music for what it is. Some being disposable dumb fun and some being true reprenstations of art.
