    Re: Rappers That's Killing Hip-Hop

    White girls killed it.

Nah for real though hip hop is the same it's always been, the dopest stuff is in the underground and you gotta search for it.

Although now it seems there isn't a single dope mainstream artist outside of Jay and Nas. SMH @ Common doing songs with the Jonas Brothers. At least we had Biggie, Pac and Wu back in the day to hold it down. I haven't really followed hip-hop the last four years, pretty sad but I gave up on it.

Let's run down the usual suspects:

      Soulja Boy
      Plies
      Lil Wayne
      New Boyz
      Lil' Flip
      etc.

All these threads do is complain about the same artists that are "killing hip hop". Whatever, if ya don't like em, don't listen to em. Their are enough forms of media in this day and age to completely block at any medium that does not appeal to your taste.

I guess I don't hold the actually meaning of hip hop in such high regard as some other people. I feel like I'm in to a broad spectrum of hip hop and can appreaciate all walks of life. My iPod is proof of that, whether it's Ghostface Killa down to Soulja Boy, back up to Little Brother and more.

Take the music for what it is. Some being disposable dumb fun and some being true reprenstations of art.

Good post. This argument applies to all music. Not just hip-hop. Only thing I disagree with is you having Solja Boy on your iPod...but it doesn't matter.

Hip-Hop has been dying for a while but there aren't that many I like anymore but there are some very talented ones out there. I really like young jeezy and drake right now.

          Re: Rappers That's Killing Hip-Hop

Out of all the artist who debuted in this decade, I only listen to four:

          Kanye West
          T.I.
          Lupe Fiasco
The Game (and I don't really listen to him all that much)

Kanye isn't the best technical rapper of the ones I listed, but I think he made the best albums of this group. He "came in the game with his own lane" and killed the charts and also is critically acclaimed. I also respect that he paid his dues.

T.I. probably has the best balance of mainstream/street/skills. Only one album has been mediocre "TI vs TIP" and even that had a few cuts on there. Other than being in jail, I can't think of any real flaw TI has. He's a straight B in every category.

Lupe is the most skilled of all those rappers. From a technical standpoint, he can do it all. Sometimes I think he goes out of his way to be different. Not saying he is a thug, but he's a hood cat from the westside of Chicago (in the same way I'm a hood cat from the southside), but his first single is about skateboards. It lumped him into the "nerd" category, but I think his true fans know better.

Game is a good rapper with some dope albums. He just seems the fakest out of this bunch. He name drops all the time, he constantly contradicts himself, and he just seems confused about what he wants to be.

Luda came out in 2000, and he has songs I like, but I don't own all his albums like the other 4.

I used to like 50, but "Curtis" was crap. Plus, How to Rob came out in 1999.

                  Re: Rappers That's Killing Hip-Hop

I hate that they call it hip hop. We never did back in the 90's. Then again, i liked west coast gangster rap. Its not the only rap i liked though, but it was a huge majority of it. When i hear stuff now, i just cringe. Then i come to find out how popular it is and i cringe even more.

I hear a ok song every now and again, but nothing to great. I also like metal as well. I remember, when i used to listen to metal back in the 90's and my friends would be like what the heck are you listening too. They were all rap fans. haha I was the only mexican around here bumping metal. I even got a ticket for having pantera to loud. haha

I got way off topic, but oh well.

Wayne is the man. He's got his fair share of terrible stuff but who doesn't?

I don't think anyone is "killing" hip hop, but I'll let you guys have your fun.

You won't find me in this thread saying hip-hop is dead. I know it isn't...

There are plenty of artists around right now, like others have said you've just got to find them.

Fortunately for me though I can kick back and just dig on my old Blackstar, Kweli albums, Soundbombins, and all the old good stuff I got.

I can't even remember the last album I bought though...Maybe "Be" or "The Minstrel Show".

I love Little Brother. My cousin actually grew up with them in NC.

But anyway, you guys should take a listen to an old freestyle Lil Wayne did over the Soulja Boy "Superman" beat. It's been so long since I've heard it but I do remember that it perfectly illustrates why I can not stand him and think he may be not only the most overrated rapper, but the most overrated artist EVER. Ughhh.
