Re: Breaking Benjamin - Dear Agony

Compared to the previous stuff Breaking Benjamin has come out with, I'm finding myself a bit underwhelmed by this effort. There are a few good songs here, but it doesn't compared to Phobia or We Are Not Alone, IMO.

I have enjoyed it. It seems a lot like Phobia, but I liked Phobia so that's fine with me.

My favorite song on the album is hands down Dear Agony.

I was disappointed at first, but it's growing on me. I'm not sure yet how it compares to their previous albums, but I think this one is deeper than We Are Not Alone for sure.

Re: Breaking Benjamin - Dear Agony

Just picked the CD up. First 3 songs I already heard and had a feel for them.

But on the short drive from the record store to my apartment I listened to Give Me A Sign and Dear Agony. Good songs. Dear Agony is amazing. I think the lyrics of the song are what puts it over the top.

Definitely giving this one a good listen all week. The guy behind me at Oz Music was getting the CD too.

I haven't really had a good listen to it yet. I do like what I've heard so far but it's not as great as their first two albums imo.

BTW does anyone else think that Give Me a Sign sounds a bit like Perfect from Simple Plan?

Even worse, I think that I Will Not Bow sounds a lot like Young from Hollywood Undead.

As it stands, Give Me a Sign is my favorite song on the album and I never once really hinted to myself any such suggestion that it sounded much like Perfect, even after reading what you said and re-listening to it. It doesn't even have the same chord progression. I see what you're saying though, but again... nothing sinister.

I wish Burnley didn't do the satanic screaming. It's nothing new, I know he does it, but it just doesn't fit. To each his own.

I hate it in any song. It never fits IMO. If it does fit in a song, that song doesn't belong to be made.

Well this and the new three days grace album were my highly anticipated albums. I was very underwhelmed by the three days grace album. But they set the bar pretty high with their first two albums. I am really likeing the BB album so far. I am up to lights out so far on just a flat out listen through but so far i havent not liked a song. Hopeless was actually the only meh song so far. I like it.

That's exactly how I feel after listening all the way through.

I think it is BB's most complete album so far, beginning to end. That being said, I don't know if it has a standout track on the level of So Cold or Diary of Jane.

I'm a huge BB fan, and I'm definitely feeling this album after one listen through. It seems more mellow/slightly softer than the first 3 as a whole. I think my favorite song after 1 listen would have to be "Dear Agony."

Dear Agony is obviously a stand-out track, but Give Me A Sign and Without You are highly underrated.

I think Fade Away is equally as good as Without You, but it seems a bit unoriginal compared to their previous work.

I love this album though, been listening to it for the past couple days straight. This and the new PJ album will be wearing out my iPod for the next couple of weeks for sure.

After several listens, there are only 3 throw away songs for me: Crawl, Hopeless, and Without You. Everything else is very solid and I can see Give Me A Sign eventually being a hit on rock radio. I really like Dear Agony. Overall, good album. Some of the songs do run together. I'd give it a B+.
