    1998

It's easily arguable that the best game in every single genre up to that point was released in 1998

1997-98 was a good time for me.

College dorms and nothing but Goldeneye and WCW/NWO Revenge on the 64. An unlimited amount of good friends to play against and two very well constructed games.

We also had a few seasons of a Super Tecmo League where most of the teams were full. I remember losing the Super Bowl to my buddy who was the Giants. I died a little that day.

Mid-late 90's. One great sports game after another on the Genesis and later the PS1 and endless Mario Kart sessions with my best friend on Super NES and N64. Plus, I couldn't get enough of the Crash Bandicoot games. Plenty of Mortal Kombat and Tekken as well. Good stuff.

I was hardcore into sports video games then. Of course I had the Goldeneye, Super Smash, Mario Party era. As well as the Tecmo Super Bowl/whole NES/Sega Genesis/Sega CD era as well, but that sports era was what really changed me into a huge sports nut.

Freshman year of college (2000). Goldeneye. License to Kill with Pistols. Hours upon hours of four player action.

We also played alot of Mario Party. Such a simple game that just turned into fierce battles. This game also produced the most infamous moment in my personal gaming life. We were coming up on the end of an epic 8 hour session and it was about 7 in the morning. We were on the last roll of a 50-turn game. My friend got up to adjust the fan that was blowing our smoke out of our on-campus apartment window and bumped the N64 causing the game to freeze. No one said a word and he walked out of the room in shame back to his apartment, which was next door. He still hasn't lived it down, and I bring it up pretty much every time I see him.

Perfect reaction to that happening, though. Just know your role. I'm sure you guys were probably real chill about it anyway, considering...

Right after college when I had nothing but free time I would play countless years of NCAA football.

                              PS2 was the sh*t.
