The article says "gamer". Does that mean anyone that plays video games at all. How many hours a week do you have to put in to be considered a "gamer". I mean I also watch tv but would say I'm not a "couch potato". Probably the average "couch potato" is going to be overweight and depressed some too.
    My Teams
    NCAA: Arkansas Razorbacks
    MLB: St. Louis Cardinals
    NFL: Dallas Cowboys
    .
    .
    .
    NBA: Memphis Grizzlies

Yea I am not sure if I can consider myself much of a "gamer" the last 5 years. I am over 35 and overweight, so I might be depressed considering I am over 35 and overweight

This is what my coworker said to me.

But Dr. Jones brings up the best point that I crossed my mind. If 35 is the average than there are an equal number of gamers over 35 and gamers under 35. Considering that it's more likely that gamers are playing by the age of 5 than playing at the age of 45, I don't know how accurate this could be.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I understand that my time working at Gamestop is no more scientific than this study but this doesn't seem right.

On reflection, I think half of our business was males in their 20's due to the bases and what not.

I think you guys aren't factoring in the gay pedophile demographic. I'm sure next year, when Michael Jackson isn't included, the average age will go down about a year or 2.

That would be the median, not the average.

Of course, I don't expect the results to be skewed toward an older average age because there are plenty of 70 year old gamers out there.

So they found that gamers in the Seattle area are depressed...Seattle does have a higher percentage of depressed people already, no? Also the ages surveyed of all 552 people ranged from 19-90. Sounds to me like they wanted to prove their hypothesis and picked the best available area to do so. Nothing looks to scientific about this study. Now how about comparing this study to the average American, probably around 35, overweight, and possibly depressed?
