Wasnt sure where else to post this but did anyone notice that apparently Netflix will now have to wait 28 days before making all Warner Bros. new releases available for rent through the mail? Warner Bros. says it will open up more of its catalog for streaming now but all new releases will, in essence, be frozen for 28 days before you can rent them.

Their loss. I'm not going to be idle those 28 days and they'll miss me renting their movies altogether. I try to do the right thing and these companies keep trying to pull more and more bull****. Really, what's the point of that?

I was getting ready to make the switch from Blockbuster to Netflix before this story came out. Netflix is also going after other studios for similar agreements.

I think I'll stick with Blockbuster.

I think this may be the future of renting, i dunno...studios want to make sure dvd sales do well. It's crap, but we'll see where it goes in the future. Gotta think WB would treat blockbuster the same way though....

idk why you would actively do that. Seems like the film companies make that condition, not Netflix. Netflix et al. have to do whatever they can to stay in business as a distributor.

NetFlix easily beats Blockbuster because of the ability to watch movies and TV shows instantly on the 360 or PS3.

Just a heads up but this is not Netflix's doing, WB is the one who did this and its because they feel that it will strengthen DVD sales instead. I would imagine WB will be doing the same thing to Blockbuster as well.

I want my movies the day I want them...not later..and I noticed that the streaming of netflix doesn't have any new movies...so I like blockbuster better, although it is ridiculous with all the surcharges for being late etc.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

Instant streaming is the future (very near, if not the present) of movie "renting." If this move encourages more new movies to be available right away, then I'm all for it. The convienience of being able to say "Hey, I want to watch [movie] right now" instead of "Let's put it on my list.. and hope it's available.. and wait 2-3 days" is so much worth it.

^ Bruins, I haven't done it yet (for PS3), but does the movie come with a menu and everything as well? I just want to be sure that, for an HD viewing, it will be similar to Blu-ray so I get an option for lossless audio and make sure it comes through the surrounds, etc. Because I noticed that some of the movie trailers (I specifically remember in Terminator Salvation), sound only came through the center channel in my receiver (not sub, nothing). I hope that doesn't happen with the movies I rent.

I don't know how it works on PS3, but I've got mine on 360. No menus or anything (movie-related, there is the graphical interface to find and play the movie), it's just the film, and not the special features. Which is fine with me because if I really wanted to watch those I can just rent the disc. Lots of things are in HD as well, so as long as your internet connection is sufficient, the video is great. Can't comment on surround, as I don't have that yet.

I gotcha. This is probably why I always want the disc, and this is why I don't want online stuff to be the future. I always want my local Blockbuster stores to be there so I can have the disc without the hassle of waiting, credit cards, etc.

Did you read what was posted? This wont bring new movies to be available right away, far from it, the delay will still be there for streaming and now it will be 28 days before you can even rent it through the mail. Im not sure how you came to the conclusion that the movies would somehow be available earlier as studios are trying to boost DVD sales and this is there way of attempting just that apparently.
