And pretty soon we won't have to interact with each other at all...technology will do it all for us.

Steven Speilberg wasn't too far off in Minority Report, was he?
It's one of those things that are very astounding technologically, but is just another "gimmick." I agree that I wouldn't be caught dead walking around campus or something with one of those, and even if I got it as a Christmas present or something I would probably have fun with it for twenty minutes then say, "Okay, now what?"

Though she is probably a big part of TED, they could have used a better presentationer. I think she said "work in process," which was kind funny. Then that girlfriend comment she made seemed out of line with the whole presentation but was an awkwardly hilarious moment.

Interesting that I can still be wowed by technology though, with the kinds of things we have seen or heard of as of late.

That's sick. I think that could be one of the next big things once it's a little more developed. Add some apps of some sort... oh man. This could be big.

If I understand what they said at the end correctly, the final product will be much more aesthetically pleasing and not as big as this ridiculous thing with a projector attached.

          Yeah.

This whole thing reminds me of the book, "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown. The one assassain has a system like this, only instead of projecting it onto a surface, it's projected through his glasses. Kind of like a HUD type thing. But he uses his fingers in natural gestures to scan through all the information and all that. I think that's what I like the most... everything at your fingertips. That's so cool.

I can't wait until we have HUD's on windshields, of course that's all dependent on getting systems that can drive for us but everytime I'm in my car I look at my windshield and think how cool it would be if I could have stuff on there.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Yeah, I always thought what it would be like for my speedometer be on the bottom left of my windshield similarly to a video game style (so it's digital numbers, not an analog dial).

It would be cool to have different widgets on there like you could have the weather in the upper corner, have a news headline feed somewhere and just stuff like that.

I suppose one could make the argument (and that is he/she who would able to pass this into law) that it is too much of a distraction while driving, that the windshield must have as little obstruction as possible. I disagree, but I'm not a governor.

Either that or this technology just hasn't been made possible yet.

Hahaha yeah, anything beyond actual car instrumentation on a HUD would be a huge crash risk... like we need more people driving around while surfing the damn web.. phones and GPS units made that enough of a problem already.

The Pontiac Grand Prix (I think the 98s) had a HUD that showed your speed low on the windshield.

That's why I said it would be dependent on getting cars to drive themselves, which is already being worked on.

I'm sure that putting HUDs on windshields is fully within the realm of possibility in the present day. However, it would be expensive and what would really be the gain? Is it that hard to just look down at the dashboard to see the speedometer? I think it's just one of those things that isn't cost-effective.
