Re: Dexter (Season 4)
Finally got to the finale and watched it. This is the first time I've actually been caught up with the show and had to wait for the new season to come and with an ending like that I just want to jump right in to the next season. And even though I already knew it was coming, that death scene was pretty heartbreaking.
I really wish they never killed Rita and I want to believe it was just a dream or something but obviously the writers have squashed that. I guess it is a sign of how great this show is though that I feel this way and that I'm worried about what happens to the kids now that Rita is gone. This show is just so good that it draws you into the characters and makes you care about them (well except Quinn, I really hope he dies).
I kind of suspected after season 3 in the finale where they had the blood drop from Dexter's arm on to Rita's wedding dress that something was going to happen to her. I can't say if I would of guessed that she was going to die at the end had I not been a dumb*** and found out but the groundwork was being laid at times and it made sense because Dexter kept thinking he could finally live a normal life these last 2 seasons. He was finally becoming happy and he was slowly starting to gain back whatever human emotions he had before his mother was murdered and then they hit him with something like that and snatch it all away. Also with Dexter having a son it seemed like it was just bound to happen that his son was going to be "born in blood", just like Dexter.
Hopefully things are going to carry on longer with this show but it does seem like they are hinting at the end being soon with Deb inching closer and closer to finding out about who Dexter really is. It's sad when you think about it, how badly they beat down the character of Deb. Seeing Lundy's last breath, getting engaged to the Ice Truck Killer, etc. And it seems like eventually she is going to find out her brother is a mass murderer. Who knows, maybe if/when she finally finds out the truth about Dexter, her character will just be so beaten down from all of the events that have happened to her in her life that she just won't give a damn that Dexter is a murderer. Doubtful, but just throwing it out there.
Anyways, cannot wait until Season 5. Something I find cool about every Dexter season finale is that it always leaves you wondering about how his character is going to change heading into the next season because of the events that happened previously in the last season.

After the writers finished off Rita, I can't help but think that Deb isn't immune to a similar fate. You brought up a good point about how she's pretty much been this show's punching bag. I don't think it'd shock me if when she found out about Dex, she Christine's herself.
I feel like the show could go on forever just based off the untapped potential of Harrison's story. Or it at least takes a hiatus for a few years and is sparked up again.
One thing to keep in mind is that the show always introduces a couple new, main characters every season. I'm sure somebody will take Rita's place.
As far as speculation, and reading some of the previous responses, it wouldn't surprise me if you just flat out didn't hear about Arthur's family anymore. Or if it and everything else from the end of S4 gets tied up in an opening monologue.
They still haven't found Trinity although they know who he is, so the Rita death can still be pinned on him. I guess it all depends on if they wanna keep milking the Trinity storyline. And I'm kind of glad they off'd Rita because it shows that the writers aren't afraid to do away with main characters, sort of like the Wire. Now we know that nobody's immune.
But man...this is definitely one of the best, most darkest TV shows I've ever watched and I truly have been missing out. Glad I started watching over Christmas break.

Re: Dexter (Season 4)
I just watched the finale tonight and nearly pooped myself. I started season 4 a couple weeks ago and only checked this thread everytime I finished an episode, so I didn't spoil anything.

BTW I was disappointed when Christine died. She was.
I hope they don't find a new love interest for Dexter for awhile, if at all. I think Dexter has learned now that he can't live the normal life he wanted to live after Rita's death and I think her death is going to make it tough for him to want to jump back into a relationship, although Rita was used as cover for what he really does in the first place and then he eventually found real feelings for her later on.
I agree about Arthur's family. They'll probably be long gone at the beginning of season 5 with the money Dexter got for them. Besides, they weren't that big a piece of the show anyways. They were mostly used to just show how much a monster Arthur really was.
I hope Astor and Cody don't suffer the same fate as Arthur's family. IMO it would be stupid for them to just be sent off to live with their grandparents or something like that because they have become part of the story. Astor growing up was an underlying storyline last season and also Cody's friend seeing Dexter leave in the boat at night hasn't been wrapped up yet and I'm sure that's going to come back to bite Dexter somehow.
Agreed on Rita's death and the fact it shows the writers are willing to kill off anyone which opens up the possibility for anything to happen now but I'm still disappointed she died. Her character was getting a little bit annoying this season but I'm wondering how Dexter is going to balance being a single father now and how the situation with Astor and Cody losing their mom is going to be handled. Although I was wondering the same thing at the end of season 3 when Dexter got married and had a baby on the way and he seemed to balance that somewhat well.
It kinda sucks to be all caught up now, haha. I'm just so curious to see the after effect of Rita's death and what's going to happen. Sucks we have to wait at least 7 months before the show starts up again. I was used to being able to just find one of the seasons and watch it from beginning to end in 1 or 2 sittings but now it looks like I'm gonna have to watch an episode a week like everyone else. Can't wait though.Last edited by BlueNGold; 01-26-2010, 03:37 AM.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: Dexter (Season 4)
I don't think Deb is going anywhere. Based on the ironic tone this show conveys it seems to be steering towards a series finale of Dex getting caught and being sentenced to the electric chair. Deb adopts Harrison and I could see a closing scene of Dex getting fried with a contrasting scene of Deb witnessing Harry doing something (like preparing a cat fillet or something) that shows Harry has incorporated Dexter's serial killer genes and she now realizes that she must (in an ironic twist of fate) teach Harrison the code to keep him from indiscriminately killing people just like her father once did with Dexter. That's my take.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 01-26-2010, 05:58 PM.Comment

The question is will Lithgow be in the scene with her?Comment

Re: Dexter (Season 4)
that would be cool, like season 5 picks up right there, you see her killed, then dexter finds her and we see how he handles it.Comment

Re: Dexter (Season 4)
That's what I was thinking, but did Trinity really know all about Dexter at that point? He knew he was doing some shady stuff (trying to extort him, stealing his money, leaving him unconscious in the van), but did he know the full extent of it?Comment
