That's unfortunate. I always like when the guys are together at the bar or something and Cleveland seems to state the obvious or the unexpected.

    A couple of Clevelandisms:

    - When Joe has surgery to have usable legs: "They still have that new leg smell."

    - When Peter says he has to pick up Meg from the rollerskating rink and the others erupt in disgust: "Meg is my least favorite of all your children."

    - When they decide to go to a sauna because they can get so numb they would feel like Joe temporarily: "That would be kind of nice for a little while."

    - When they're bowling: "I must say, I do feel a strange satisfation watchin' the black ball topple all those self-righteous white pins."

He's just awesome! Would be awful to lose him.

I didn't watch it, but you can never judge a new series off of the first episode. Everything in a first episode is forced just to give you an idea of what to expect out of the different characters. I'll check it out eventually, though my expectations are low. American Dad kind of surprised me though with its quality so I guess its possible Cleveland could do the same thing.

I liked the lil guy with the fro.

I thought the last time Cleveland Jr. was seen was the golf episode wich was 4 or 5 years ago?

They're not in Quahog anymore so no he's not going to be on FG.

did anyone else notice that they changed the lyrics to the opening song from "my happy black-guy face" to "my happy mustache face"?

Finally watched it last night on the dvr. I liked it. I laughed pretty much throughout the episode.

Rilo is hilarious. When Cleveland and Jr. were gonna hit the road Rilo says, "I know you aint leaving without making up these beds!"

                Re: Cleveland Show

Got around to watching it on Hulu and I did like it. Only thing I fear is that it still has the family guy feel to it and the same type of jokes, like the R. Kelly bathroom joke. Not saying that I hate those random cutaways, infact I love family guy, but what I fear is that now that they have two shows that use them (I don't think American dad uses them, but I just occasionally watch that show) the funny ones will be spread out and that will affect the quality of Family Guy episodes.

Other points that I agree with and like are that it feels more like a traditional sitcom and the slower pace. For a while, it felt like the middle seasons of the Steve Harvey show, I loved Romeo and Cedric on that show. The daughter reminded me of Romeo's character.

That's what I felt about FG and American Dad. I was saying "Well now they're going to use jokes for one show that they could have used for Family Guy." Fortunately, AD was taking a completely different route so they probably didn't use too many jokes for one that they could have used for the other anyway, but I think they can with the Cleveland Show the way you referred to at least one of the jokes already.

                    Re: Cleveland Show

Cleveland was never a funny character IMO. Having a mellowed out politically correct character on a show like Family Guy should only be there to help further contrast with the Main character (Peter) to help him stick out more.

I have to cosign with stewie - "He's getting his own show?!?!?!"

Now the Quagmire show I'm pretty sure I would find entertaining.

I agree with you on this. Quagmire was perfect for his own spinoff. You know, McFarlane loves derivative ideas so why not put Quagmire in a Three's Company situation or Sex in the City, Quagmire style.

It would really suck to lose Quagmire from Family Guy.

In Seth's interview in Playboy last month he touched on why the decision to go with Cleveland instead of other characters, namely Quagmire. He basically said that Quagmire's character was best at enhancing the other characters and was too one dimensional to have his own show. He is best as a supplemental character who pops in and then out. Cleveland, however, while not as entertaining was a much more suitable character to create series with other characters around him...or something to that effect.

They need to drop the sitcom format with the cheesy music and all and be a little more free with the format. Otherwise, I thought this episode was a lot better then last week and Cleveland Jr. is pretty funny. The part where the toaster realizes he's a boy was pretty damn funny.
