Amen to that man, that's a great example of what I mean by Hollywood has NO IDEA what is scary anymore when they do films like this. Building dread and suspense is done in your imagination...not showing Freddy very clearly, like in the first film, goes a long way toward that. They just don't get it.

The first time I saw a movie in the series was around 1988, when I just sat and watched what was aired on the "pirate" cables we had back then (we only got real cables around 1990-1991). So they aire NOES 2 and I was in awe. I was 12 and just loved it! So then, my friend rented part 3 and I enjoyed it too. Then, in 1990, part 4 and I think also 5 arrived. I remember waiting to see the 4th one, because it was the first movie in the series I actually watched in the theatre. But after seeing it I thought: "Well, it was fun, but not really a scary movie and so many jokes that it was like a comedy". And I don't even want to talk about part 5...
Around that time, I went with my parents to the UK for 2 weeks, and during our days in London, I bought NOES 1 and 2. I was amazed when I watched the first movie. I watched it so many times after that, that the VHS tape got worn out.

The child molesting stuff was felt creepy why did they change him anyway from being child killer to a molester.

I knew this movie would be garbage, but I read an interview from the writer and he had a very good reason for this change.

Some history:

When Wes Craven dreamed up the idea of Freddy, he originally had him as a child molester. However, the studio asked him to change it because of a currrent child molestation case that had most Americans feeling a bit upset. Craven then changed it to a serial killer.

The new scribe said that the studios wanted to go back to the original idea and he supported it for one major reason (a reason I agree with): It would have been ridiculously unrealistic for a man to kill 20 kids and no one in the town know about him for decades after.

I know we're supposed to subject ourselves to fantasy, but fantasy elements have to be realistic as well and if the film sucked, I guarantee it has nothing to do with Freddy being a molester.

Also this same guy is writing the remake to The Thing (be warned). He's also writing the script for Final Destination 5 - which he claims will be more like the first one.

Horror writing is not in a good state right now in the film industry. That's not a direct complaint at this specific writer; just a general comment. The one good thing this writer was able to do was convince the studio to NOT use CGI in The Thing. I think I might watch it for that reason.

This movie is not as bad as some are making it out to be, but also not that great when compared to the other remakes we have seen the last few years. I couldn't stand Leak's voice as Freddy, I just couldn't get Englund's Freddy voice out of my head.

In some ways his new face looks cool since he looks like ashes and a real burn victim, but on the flip side when he was talking it just looked bad.

My wife said the same thing as everyone else in this thread, none of these actors/actresses looked like teens. You have twenty and thirty year old's playing teenagers which I could never understand. Some of the acting was mediocre...........I was wondering if any of these kids had a dad. LOL!

Who knows if we will see a part 2 or not, but they have some tweaking to do if they are going to.

Too bad Englund is 63 yrs old, but I can understand wanting someone younger in the role.

he puts this girl he molested when she was 5 in the bed with her dress on that looks the same as the one she wore when she was molested by him, then freddie walks around the bed and says some kinda sexual stuff to her, then she tries to get up and freddy uses his dream powers to pin her back down again on the bed...it's pretty creepy and sort of uncomfortable to watch since it's directly referencing him molesting her when she was 5 and all...

I didn't feel uncomfortable with this scene, I guess it could have been worse.

it was crap. I a huge Horror fan and some movies should never be remade and this is most one of them.
