Yup. There's a direct upgrade path from Vista to 7 assuming you have the right version (check the chart I posted above).

No need to back anything up if you don't want to do a clean install.

I would always do a clean install. Especially if you already have a back up Hard drive, you can just backup the files you wanna save then copy them back over. Formatting my hard drive and installing windows 7 took less than a half hour, very fast.

I talked to one of my friends who upgraded from vista without formatting his hard drive and it took him four hours to install. He is also having some minor issues.

Also, with windows skydrive, you have 25GB of free online storage. Here is the link:

You can do it easily by inserting the windows 7 disc and rebooting your computer. At the boot screen, depending on your computer, you need to press one of the F keys at the top of your keyboard to boot from your DVD drive. This will load the windows 7 disc and will give you the option to format your drives.

You can format without doing this, but this method is much faster and easier. Also, don't forget to backup the files you want to keep. Like I posted above, you have 25GB of free online storage.

that is what I did. Didn't back up anything. Just did an upgrade and everything is fine.

Windows 7 is the bomb. More I use it the more I love it. Going back to XP at my workstation feels like I'm going back in time ten years.

Re: Anyone upgrading to Windows 7?

I have no idea why anyone would want to stick with XP over Windows 7 or even Vista. I think Vista has been far more stable and more robust and I'm sure Windows 7 is even better than Vista from what I've read. I know XP was pretty stable but I've only had Vista crash once on me in several years and XP crashed more frequently than that.

Anyways, I think I'm going to upgrade my laptop and see how things go. I think i'm probably going to do the clean install route.

Anyone know of any good deals on Windows 7??

oH and one other thing - if you want windows 7 to run in 64 bit mode and you're currently using a 32 bit OS you will have no choice but to do a clean install, otherwise you'll be stuck with windows 7 in 32 bit mode.

If your upgrading a laptop be weary of your touchpad. The drivers dont work for my touchpad, so my touchpad on my laptop is all screwy and very very very very sensitive. lol Thats the only negative so far.

i have a dell laptop and after reading around on the net some I guess windows 7 has a flaw where the sleep mode don't work right. so i guess i'll hold off for a while and upgrade a bit down the road.

I keep trying to drag my window to the top of the screen to maximize it on the computers in the lab at my school. Lol.
