So I have Windows 7, but am not sure if I want to switch from XP.

I have some programs that I don't have the keys or CDs for anymore. What could I do to get these over to 7? I'm not sure I would be able to just an upgrade I actually was wanting to do a clean slate to get any lingering crap from looking at porn

Well I finally got my upgrade disk in the mail. Tried it last night. I had to uninstall Itunes and Catalyst Controller for my video card.

Once I did that my Blur Ray drive and DVDR went missing. Had to do a system restore and then tried the Upgrade again restarted system. Removed Itunes restart, removed Catalyst Restart. Then run upgrade again. Worked fine. Lost nothing just a pain to check up on the uninstall and restart. All drivers were in place. upgraded my antivrus to windows 7 version and was good. All in all the actual upgrade took less than 20 minutes but the troubleshooting the missing drives and restarting cost me another 45 minutes.

Works great, home server linked directly to it without any modifying but haven't tested it with PS3 or 360.

I'm finding myself being really upset that Windows 7 isn't installed on my University's and work computers. I have it on my laptop and home PC, and using Windows XP feels like crap compared to 7. I can't snap windows to the side, start programs from the taskbar with a keyboard input, and it just looks damn ugly compared to 7. Damn it!

Absolutely. Using XP in the computer labs on campus feels like such a step backwards.

Re: "Official MS Window 7 Chat"

Installed from Vista Ultimate 64 to 7 Ultimate 64 did in place upgrade no problems. Didn't want to reinstall all programs with a fresh upgrade.

Had XP Media Center 32 to 7 Pro 64 and ran into problems. I used the Digital River download option and before it creates the install folder it verifies you have a 64 bit system. Since it was 32 bit it would stop install process. They corrected this by providing an .ISO download but you have to contact them and most people would have just tried to reinstall or download the install files again if they didn't know it was hanging because of the 64 bit environment error (it doesn't tell you that was the problem).

Instead I just ran the install and created an .ISO on the 64 bit system I already had. Had to do the custom install and backed up most documents with the Easy Transfer tool from MS. Saved all profiles and data from My documents. Only backed up drive C: and didn't touch my media drives. I also ran Belarc Advisor to get all my program keys so reinstalling my programs was a breeze.

It's definitely more intuitive and pretty much plug and play with my home network and home server. I love the media center in 7 than Vista or XP MC. Haven't tried streaming anything to the 360 but but it did notify me that a 360 was found on the network. PS3 was streaming fine and I didn't have to search for the media servers.

Just set up my new Windows 7 media center PC in my living room, replacing MythTV (Linux).

I love it so far, very sexy and easy to use. And the Homegroup streaming features are phenomenal, I've been flawlessly streaming music from my bedroom all day and even streamed an HDTV recording that I had saved off the old media center. It only buffered a couple times and the video quality was great, I was very impressed.

Was it streamed wired or wireless? I use powerline adapters due to the wireless lag in streaming HD recordings.

Did you have to make any special settings for your wireless adapters cause I find when I stream HD to one of my ps3's its choppy over wifi and it getting 90-100% connection.

                            No changes.

Yeah, that's what surprised me. I had problems using PS3 Media Server on XP to stream stuff from my laptop to my PS3. But going from Windows 7 now on my laptop to Windows 7 in the living room worked great.

upgraded yesterday. Seems much better than Vista so far.
