Re: Friday Night Lights Season 4
That's fair. Just having some discussion. Really love this show, don't know why I didn't get into into it sooner. Just can't stand Tami's character, at all. The scenes with the guidance counselor this past season I just had to forward through them. They served no purpose at all other than to pad Tami's character as some magical wonder person.Comment

Really? I thought it was a good social commentary on how even if you do everything 100% right you can still be punished.

I actually mean when that dude who took over for her as guidance counselor makes a move on her. The one with Becky and her is a little better, but not much better. Just saw a direct corrolation with the quality of the show going down and Tami getting more airtime. The amount of pointless scenes that she is in is just crazy.Comment

But they had been building up his infatuation for her for so long that they obviously needed to do something to close that off and just give her another reason to go across town with the rest of her family. I think Tami's character is great. She is a strong woman.

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 4
Thats the issue. They build her up far too much. She's never once made a mistake the whole time she's been on the show. She's like the perfect mom. Plus the "hi ya'll" all the time really makes me mad. I know it's common in the south but it just seems so forced with her. I watch a lot of shows and she's the first main character in a show I really can't stand. Maybe it's just me.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 4
From Lukes families side, she is the devil. She forced their son to switch schools from a football powerhouse to East Dillon. She talked the mother of Lukes child into having an abortion.
She has made countless decisions that have upset member of her own faculty, namely the football team.
As a principal she was obviously the bread winner for that family and decided to put her moral beliefs in priority over her familys well being by refusing to appologize and then stepping down in her position. Morally a mistake wasn't made, but because of her decision, her family did suffer from bullying and will suffer financially in the future from her decision. It would have been a cop out for her to just stand up and applogize...just wouldn't have fit her character.
I don't see a problem in having a character that is strong willed, who sticks to their morals regardless of the outcome. I think these characters exist in most TV dramas (look at Gil Grissom from CSI..a different type of character, but never one to go against his morals).
From 20,000 feet up, she does the right thing, but in the universe of the show every decision she is making is usually pissing some one off.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 4
Tami is a very strong woman and morally her actions make sense but like the above poster said in the eyes of some of the community she is terrible. Not to mention the usual teenage girl vs. mom drama that's been going on all 4 seasons - her relationship with Julie is so real. They clash like any mother and daughter do, but when it comes down to it, Tami is there and Julie needs her.
I think the writers have done a great job with keeping her character consistent throughout the show. She's not one of my favorite characters (Matt, Eric, and Tim are my top 3), but she fits great as coach's wife.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 4
She's not a horrible character by any means. I just don't like the way she is. And how much screentime she gets. I think a lot of the by the bed scenes where Eric tells her how good she is can really be avoided, and come off as cheesy. We get it, they love each other.Comment

I do agree that sometimes they get away from football for too long some times, but I'm sure that is the direction the writers get from the suits making the decisions.Last edited by Trevytrev11; 08-26-2010, 04:49 PM.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 4
Don't even care about getting away from football to be honest with you. Their have so many good non-football related stuff on this show. Like the Street to Mexico stuff. Buddy and his ex-wife. The list goes on. Doesn't always have to be football, just has to be interesting. Anything with Tim in it.
Show does a real good job of it. Season 2 happened to be my favorite and as I've read around, I've seen a lot of people not liking it because it didn't have a ton of football in it. Although farfetched at time, I really enjoyed the Tyra/Landry murder storyline as it brought the 2 characters together in a very believable way.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 4
I actually stumbled apon this show on Direct Tv 101. I saw season 4 a year ago. I liked it so much I had to go out and buy the first 3 seasons on DVD to get the whole story. My wife got into it with me while watching the DVD's, then when season 4 came to regular Tv she got to see that as well. Great show.
Also someone said above in the Tami discussion that "She talked the mother of Lukes child into having an abortion." This is not true. She simply explained the options, she did not talk her into going one way or the other.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 4
Oh I know and this was obvious..to us...we saw the whole conversation...but obviously not to Lukes parents. I was simply stating that to us, on the outside, she makes the right decisions "all of the time", but to others on the show, she is far from perfect.Comment
