Great, I just got a virus. Help?
Just now as I was reading some posts here, the window closed and it said my computer is infected. It then opened a window called block protector and shows my shared documents, my documents, hard drive and windows security. It has flashing red text under all of them. My shared documents has 6 viruses, my documents has 3 and my hard drive has 9. Under windows security it says Security is affected by virus.

Ok I just googled the window URL that opened. It is jnewage.com/online and then a bunch of numbers and letters. Nothing came up in the search. In the tab for it, it says BlockProtector. I googled that and it says it is malware.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Has anyone else seen that BlockProtector thing before?
The window looked almost exactly like the my computer window from windows xp. I decided just to close it because I'm pretty sure it is one of those fake antivirus things. It also had a text box that said what files were the bad ones and as soon as you click on it, even on the scroll bar of the box, it asks you to save a file called setup.exe. Panicking, I did but I never opened it once it was downloaded. I've already deleted it and removed it from the recycle bin because I have a feeling opening it is going to do the real damage.
I ended up doing a search on here and found alot of guys have been using Avira. I downloaded that and am scanning now to make sure nothing is on my computer.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

I just finished the scan using that Avira antivirus software and it looks like I'm good. There were 3 warnings but no suspicious files or detections.
I have no idea where that BlockProtector window came from though. Like I said I was just reading posts on here and then the window closed and that BlockProtector window came up.
Should I still do what you said even though I ran that Avira program or am I good for now?Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

If the virus will let you, run MalwareBytes (make sure to update to the latest patch). I recently ran into a similar issue (fake virus protection malware) with my work laptop and ended up just blowing it out because it became so bad.Comment

What if the antivirus I downloaded scanned and says everything is good? Should I still be doing what you and ollie suggested to be on the safe side?Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Most definitely. No one virus protection will cover you completely. Running several scans of various types is much better to hopefully cover you.Comment

Re: Great, I just got a virus. Help?
I posted about a virus that my computer got recently and got no help, but anyway:
I'd personally run the aforementioned Malwarebytes as well as Adaware and Spybot, as sometimes they all can catch different things.
Also, if you can figure out the file names of the virus startup files, start your computer in Safe Mode, open up msconfig, and block your system from starting it up.Comment

run hijackthis. you have to manually search and look for the bad out of place file name. usually thats not too hard.
also run CCLEANER. alot of viruses are stored in your TEMP files which are rarely cleaned out. this program helps with that along with internet temp files.
I would strongly advise to use AVAST. I have it running on my pc and the avast on-access scanner picks up atleast one virus a day while browsing varius websites. it gives me an option to ABORT the running of the sight when it pops up that something is bad.
ive been running strong, along with Malwarebytes for almost a year nowComment

When you closed the window that looked exactly like your "my computer" page, did it give you a pop up dialog box saying something to the extent of 'to close click ok, other click cancel to remain on page.' If that's what you're talking about, it's just an ad. But if you think it's something else, then do what the guys above me are telling you.My football alliances: E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles AND Hokie Hokie Hokie HiComment

Re: Great, I just got a virus. Help?
My goofy brother jacked up my desktop on Sunday during the kids b-day party. He goes to D/l a torrent after I told him not to and I ended up getting some mean virus that I was not able to clean out. I ended up having to reformat the system and reinstall everything. Was I pissed.Comment
