Re: Your five favorite voices in the history of music?

Here are my top, no particular order:

Steve Perry (Journey) - Amazing range.

Tupac Shakur - Multiple "voices" (thugish, hard, soft, etc) but used it to convey his stories so well.

Bob Marley - Simply lyrics, yet a voice that influenced an entire way of thinking.

Chino Moreno (Deftones) - With or without the synth; can be sensual or super aggressive. Has all the range for all the metal growls.

Serj Tankian (SOAD) - The man could probably sing anything "metal".

Michael Jackson - He was The King for a reason.

Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) - No one can match the power, raspiness & rumble.

      no order
      1. De La Rocha-You know it's an RATM with less than a second of listening. Instantly orginal and unique
      2. Layne Staley-Iconic IMO. Along with Kobain, he's the voice of a generation
      3. Chris Cornell-He can sing good, but nobody can scream like him.
      4. Johnny Van Zant-See video.
      5. Freddy Mercury

Keep in mind this isn't best singers

Re: Your five favorite voices in the history of music?

            The greatest rock singer ever:

Brian Johnson - perfect for AC/DC:

Bruce Dickinson... I needn't say anything else:

Elias from Nonpoint. One of my top favorite bands of all time. Sadly they suck now:

And last, but not least, Leslie ****ing West:

To those who mentioned 2pac, I don't know how I missed him. I guess I was more so thinking about singing voices, but 2pac is by far the greatest rap voice we've ever had. No one before or since has been able to convey that variety of emotion through rap.

                    In no particular order

Robert Plant - redefined what a lead rock singer should be
Janis Joplin - Soul to the max
Axl Rose - What a nutcase but that range is just sick
John Lee Hooker- Blues vocals get no better
Bob Marley- He is reggae I could listen to his voice all day and I'd be a better man for it at the end of the day

No way i could keep it to 5

Grace Slick- She's blown my mind ... no really its totally shattered
                    Jim Morrison- Oh so Iconic
Steven Tyler- dare to dream on
                    Lenny Williams- Gotta love that

                    Oh I could go on..

Good find. It's been a looooon while (since the Neo-Soul explosin of early 2000's) that I've heard a good, new voice.

No doubt Nas has a dope rapping voice and he does show emotion from time to time, but 2pac was like an orator when he rapped. He had a very commanding voice. Biggie did too, but Biggie didn't have the same emotional variety as Pac. My top 3 rap voices are 2pac, Scarface and Biggie.
