isn't that the whole idea of stand-up comedy? He just has one of those styles that people either love or hate, there's no grey area with him.

Yeah that's part of the idea.

It definitely seems like there isn't a grey area on whether people like him or not.

He's just a whiter version Carlos Mencia in my eyes. He's loud, obnoxious, and horribly unfunny, yet people love him for some reason. Like somebody else pointed out, just because he's popular doesn't mean he's good at what he does. He just knows how to appeal to the masses. Andrew Dice Clay was selling out stadiums back in the day, is he a good comedian? I rest my case.
So if he's knows how to appeal to the masses (meaning the largest audience), I'd say he's definitely good at what he does... or... he wouldn't appeal to the masses.

And I have no problem with people not liking the guy, we all have different tastes. But to say "they like him for some reason despite being unfunny" is a ridiculous argument. He's not funny to YOU, and that's fine, but to me he's hilarious, so it's all opinion based.

And regardless what anyone who doesn't like him thinks, you can't argue he isn't good at what he does, or, again, he wouldn't "appeal to the masses".

There are tons of celebrities who aren't good at what they do, yet they have mass appeal. The music industry is full of examples. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good. How many people thought Hammerpants were stylish when they came out...and how about now? The ridiculous things that are popular now are proof that you can't base the quality of something on its popularity.

I dislike him because he's a joke thief. Plain and simple.

That being said, he does have some of his own jokes that get me laughing. But I can't respect a dude who steals other people's material and gets famous by doing so.

Yeah but everyone only remembers him for that one song. Or at least I do.

BTW, don't tell me you just spent 2 minutes of your life googling that lol.

Re: Dane Cook: ISolated INcident Global Thermo Comedy Tour

I never found Dane Cook funny... even before his "fame." When I was in middle school and high school I used to always watch "Comedy Central Presents..." I remember seeing his first one and my friend saying "dude, he's so funny," and I just couldn't get it.

He's just obnoxious and loud. That's it.

He doesn't even tell jokes. He just tells stories. I keep waiting for the punchline and it never comes.

I don't dislike him as much as I am disappointed in people who find him humorous. There are PLENTY of other comedians who are much funnier.

Well of course there are guys that are funnier. No one is saying he's the funniest comedian or at least I'm not. I just enjoy the jokes/stories he tells because they're funny and I can relate to a lot of them.

Eh, to each his own, I guess.

Nickelback plays in front of that many people every night when they're on tour and they are pretty much the worst band in the world. I've never met anyone that even had the slightest bit of musical education that enjoyed Nickelback's music, yet they sell millions of albums. Just because something appeals to the masses doesn't mean it's any good.

Good is a subjective point. I think he's hilarious. You can't ever prove that "wrong" because it's an opinion.

My point is, what you like and dislike is an opinion. Those 15, 000 people liked Dane Cook and that's their opinion. Not everyone is going to like him.

Your opinion of Nickelback being the 'worst band in the world' isn't going to be the same as everyone else. Personally, I don't like them either but I understand there is just as many people like me and you that hate them as there is people that love them.

I don't think you can name one comedian, band, singer, actor, etc. that everyone universally likes.

I use to dislike Dane Cook but my wife really likes him and he has definitely grown on me. He is funny as hell. Now he is no where near the level Chappelle is at, he is my all-time favorite comedian. "Nah dogg I'm cool I'm a stay here and chill with my monkey."
